Good evening Ladies,

Last night I went to bed feeling poorly and woke up at midnight burning up like never b4. By 1.00am it was so intollerable I got up, took my temp, (over 103f or over 39c), took some paracetamol and went downstairs for a drink. I was so worried about Bubs getting too hot and felt sooo ill I didn't get back to sleep.

Since then my symptoms have been...severe headache, not helped by paracetamol, burning up, feeling mega hot, uncontrollable shivering & teeth chattering when get out of bed, mega sweating, dry mouth & thirsty. I've drunk over 4litres of v. dilute squash. Constantly going to toilet.

I did talk to my M/W at 11am who said it's okay to take paracetamol to bring temp down at 18wks, and to see GP if it's prolonged. How long is prolonged?

My temp is hitting 103f after each 4hr period once paracetamol has worn off.

I feel so lousy and still haven't had any sleep.

Has anyone else suffered from a bug like this while pregnant???

:( :(

Can't help really but might be worth phoning NHS direct and see what they say? Maybe you need some antibiotics ior something too

Hope you feel better soon

I had an ear infection about three weeks ago (at 20 wks) that laid me quite low. My temperature was up and I was feeling really rotten. I saw the doctor who advised me to have lots of rest, lots of fluids, and take paracetamol for the temperature and pain.

Personally, I found the paracetamol had little effect, and I got more relief from cool baths and trying to sleep as much as possible. The doctor told me to go back if it got worse as I could take antibiotics as a last resort, but that he would prefer if I could shake it off without them.

If I was you, I would make an appointment to see a doctor, they will be able to tell you if you need more help, not all midwives are good with illnesses. I hope you feel better soon.

I'm sorry to hear you are not feeling too good but don't worry about your baby. An expecting mother can be lit on her death bed with flu or a high temp and the baby will be fine! My mum was high with fever when she was carrying me, she was bed ridden for 2 weeks and I was fine.

Do get yourself checked out, however, always keep in mind that any doctor you will see, will have to consult your Obs/Gyn, so if you are not getting medication from your Gyn/mid wife, chances are you won't get anything else from any other doctor. If you are that worried, get yourself down to the hospital as soon as possible, better sorted now than later.

Hope you feel better soon xx

Thanks Guys!

I'm still feeling pretty rough. I took your advice and went to see my GP this morning. She was very thorough trying to find the cause of my fever (urine sample but red throat too so she thinks that's it. I've taken so much paracetamol I can't feel the pain!) Most importantly she reasured me that taking paracetamol 4hrly is okay and the baby will be fine!

I'm such a worry wart!

Thanks again!

as long as the paracetemal is 500mg or less i.e. panadol and taken every 4hrs, this won't do anything to your LO. But if you find you have been taking it for a good few days, try to only take it when you are really in pain.
