Morning Ladies,

I need to have a moan, feeling very low atm :( I dont expect you to plough through this long post I just need to let it all OUT!

I've been suffering with pain and discomfort in my hips and lower back for sometime now, and my right hip is always more painful. It's a throbbing ache sensation in my hip which is now traveling down my leg and bum.

I over did it on Sunday, i had an urge to do lots of housework, clean the oven, make pizza's from scratch, you name it I did it and didnt actually sit until gone 7pm, when I realised I was having trouble moving.

If I sit getting up is a nightmare, when I sit I can't get comfy. For the past 2 nights I haven't slept for more than 4 hours because my hips are throbbing.

Last night I'd had enough, so I used my OH's exercise ball to try and help with the pain. I ended up kneeling and leaning forward with my knees far apart which really helped and my OH massaged my lower back. I also had to take paracetamol to ease the pain. I'm not happy about taking the paracetamol, I've not taken a thing all the way through my pregnancy even when I've had migraines but I just couldn't stand it any longer. I eventually got comfy and lay with a hot water bottle on my right hip.

I managed to sleep for a couple of hours but woke about 3am in pain again and no matter what position I was in with MANY cushions I just could not sleep. I ended up in tears, really sobbing, trying to be quiet so not to woke my OH but he heard me and gave me a cuddle, which helped. Tears are coming again now :(

I gave up at 4.30am got up had a glass of water took more paracetamol and decided to read. I eventually fell asleep not sure what time but the next thing I knew my OH was up getting kids rdy for school had turned my alarm off and let me stay in bed :D . I didnt sleep just rested, because then the bloody puppy started barking/howling and wouldn't shut up, then the bloody cat was scratching at the door to get in :wall: but I did get more rest.

Anyway I just feel like poop, I see the MW on Thursday and will talk to her about it. The last MW I mentioned it too wasn't concerned but its getting much worse and I do not want to keep taking paracetamol. I'm wondering whether its sciatica?

Anyone else feeling this?

Sorry for long post, and well done if you got to the bottom of it x

It sounds as if it could be sciatica and it is common to get it in pregnancy. I had it with my 3rd and it was horrid though not as bad as what you are describing. Definately speak to your mw about it and if you don't feel she has helped make a GP appt and speak to them the one thing you need is your sleep.
In the meantime you may find a deep heat rub or heat pad will help and try and take it a bit easier than you have been

I really feel for you hun. Don't worry about taking the paracetamol, its quite safe for you to take during your pregnancy sp don't feel guilty, It's better to try rid yourself of some of the pain than suffer.

It's awful when you can't sleep, i am having the same problem with SPD, i am so uncomfy in bed it takes me forever to drop off and then everytime i have to move i wake up! I find it better to sleep during the day for some reason but that then makes it harder for me to sleep at night! Total nightmare!

I don't really know what to suggest that could help but i do know how you feel, hopefully it won't be long and it will all be over!

hi Ladies and thanks for your replies

I think it could be this Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP) which is associated with SPD.

Just found this page with info on it
http://www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/a ... irdlepain/

Describes exactly what I'm feeling, so will talk to my MW about it.

Deep Heat is a good suggestion thanks Mik. Taking the paracetamol was the only thing that gave me some relief so I will take it if I need to, probably at night so I can sleep, its difficult not to feel guilty tho.

I'm going to try aqua natal too, as suggestion on the website I found.

Sounds like it could be sciatica hun, and I totally sympathise with you.. because I had it with my first.. and it really is horrible.. beyond any description!

There really isnt much that can be done about sciatica except to keep trying to find a comfortable position to sit and lay in, and use those positions from now on.. and do not over-do it anymore.. take it really really easy.

You have my total sympathy hun.. I can imagine what you're going through.. don't feel guilty for moaning about it.. I know how painful it can be!

Take care of yourself and take it really easy

I don't really know what to suggest hun, but just wanted to offer you lots of     and I hope you feel better soon, hopefully when you see you MW on Thurs she will be able to help. Just take it easy and don't over do things!

My MW thinks I have PGP and said the next step is to send me to physio. I was worried it was SPD but  its not that as the pain isn't at the front. I thought, oh I won't bother wasting people's time and will just crack on with it but this afternoon (after everyone else at work went home) I'm actually standing at my desk typing because I'm in agony if I sit down. :(

I'm also in agony if I try to get up from a lying position and moving my legs to put on clothing is horrible. I have to sit down like an old woman now! :(

Def talk to your MW asap and see what they say. Hope you find a solution soon and you have a moan all you like mate, nothing makes you feel better than knowing other people are in the same boat.   My MW suggested paracetamols to kill the pain for now so try not to feel guilty - you are a person too who needs looking after and if paracetamol are going to help you rest then you take them - just don't pop them like Smarties!

Hey hun,

I totally sympathise with you. I suffer with SPD and its horrible.

However please dnt feel bad about the paracetamol, paracetamol doesnt cross the placenta so has absolutely no affect on the baby what so ever (this is straight from the consultants mouth :) )

xxxx

Thank you everyone, its great this place for advice and an ear, you've all made me feel better

I've tried some yoga for pregnancy this afternoon (a video a friend gave to me) and my kids were laughing theirs heads of, which was a little distracting lol but I enjoyed it but it also made me realise how restricted my movements are even more, but something I am going to work on. I have aqua natal tomorrow and I can't wait until I'm in the water :cheer:

Absolutely hun- don't hold back on paracetamols if you need them, they are ok, honestly. I had that flu in December and got a sinus infection and was in agony and I saw three Drs about it and they all said the same, it really is ok to take. Don't be in pain if you don't need to be

Thanks you have both put my mind to rest on this one, I wasn't aware that the paracetamol didn't cross the placenta (and I've had 4 pregnancies!), I thought all drugs did. If I really need them I will take them now.

Last night was MUCH better, the yoga helped and I rested all day, such a relief.
