I was wondering whether anyone has been sent for a growth scan after exceeding the uterus measurement threshold?

You're supposed to match in cm's the number of weeks you are pregnant, but I've been gradually getting bigger than I should be.....at 25wks I measured 26cm, at 28wks I measured 30cm, so at my 31wk appt tomorrow I am anticipating exceeding the average by 3cm (or more :shock:) which I believe exceeds the recommended 2cm threshold, if so I think I will be sent for a growth scan - I just wondered what I am likely to find out if that does happen & what course of action they might take thereafter...does this mean I have a beast growing inside me?!?! This is my first baby.

Any advice would be great x

I have been measuring slightly over throughout my pregnancy apart from my last midwife appointment, when I measured spot-on. I have had two growth scans and another scheduled for next week, but I have gestational diabetes which is the reason for the scans. If your baby is big, they may induce you slightly earlier than your due date I believe. But don't count on me, I could be wrong - this is just what is happening to me. But, like I said, there is a reason for my baby measuring big so I'm not 100% sure what they do if your bubba is big for no apparent reason.
Sorry, that wasn't much help really was it?! xx

From 25 weeks I always measured between 4 and 6 cms bigger than my dates. I had a growth scan and was found to have excess fluid so was signed off work for 4 weeks. The fluid levels reduced but they did think I would have a big baby.
Due to high blood pressure and the fact I was so large I was induced on my due date.
Jake was born weighing 9lbs 5ozs so was quite chunky.

I have been sent for growth scans but only because I'm measuring smaller... They will just check baby's measurements etc on the scan, LO might be measuring correctly so try not to worry to much! I started at

26wks =25.5cm
28wks =27cm
30wks =28cm
32wks =29cm
34wks =31cm
36wks = 32cm

So as you can see I have a lovely pattern going on..lol xx

Thank you ladies, that is useful, I guess I just need to wait & see what they say....I am getting slightly worried about having a big babba now though ;o) I'm not a big person, size 10 pre preg & 5' 3" so could do without a chunky monkey! :D

Good luck for your scan, it could be all sorts of reasons, and even a little chunky one, but I always measured small and then had average babies 3 out of 4 times, and only slightly smaller baby once at 5lb 15, which is not really that small either. Maybee you will have a average baby too

I was measuring consistently smaller and my PAPP-A blood result from the 10 week bloods was low so they sent me for a growth scan to check that baby was ok and didn't have IUGR - if it did, I'd have to be induced early.

Anyway...

To all of our surprise, the baby is actually measuring as quite big! It's head measured at 40+6 when I was only 38 weeks and its tummy is pretty chunky too :shock: - I have to lay off the sweet stuff...not that I have a great deal anyway :(
It just goes to show that the fundus measurement is quite inaccurate as it is relative - all midwives have different methods so don't worry too much. xxx

Try not to worry, I had exactly the same situation and was measuring slightly to big from 25 weeks onwards. At 31 weeks i was measuring 34 and a half cm so i was sent for a growth scan. I had the same worries as im sure your having and was quite anxious by the time i went in to be scanned.

They checked all the babies measurements and amount of fluid and asked me about previous history of diabetes in the family. It turns out that they weren't concerned about me having diabetes as i am in reasonably good health and that baby is fine. She was measuring just the maximum that she should be on the growth charts and my level of fluid again is at the maximum it should be so its basically a mixture of both!

I was sent away and told just to continue my routine mw appointments as normal as they had no concerns that effected either the health of me or my baby. They havent decided to take any action with regards to inducing me or anything like that.

Im sure everything will be fine but wish you the best of luck!

Its also a nice chance to see your babba before they come into the big wide world! Not that mine couldnt actually fit on the screen!

Good luck.

I read too somewhere to cut down on fatty and sugary foods at end of pregnancy - especially in last 6 weeks so baby does not get too big. I am at moment measuring 2cm over and eating a sweetie - oops!!

Thanks to everyone for their advice & wishes. Thankfully I seem to be getting back on track, at 31 wks I measured 32cm, although I agree that the accuracy of these measurements is questionable, I saw a different midwife this time aswell! Still there is no point worrying anyway as the little (or big) tyke has to come out at some point & I really can't wait to meet him/her!
