hey girlies!
alot of people keep saying to me "oooo i think he's gonna be a big baby".... my bump is npt HUGE and ive put on just under 2stone....

how can the midwife tell and predict your babies size? for those of you who were told your babies was gonna be big... were they? how can they tell????????? i have 36week appointment on Monday and i wanna know the estimated size of babes.....

people told me i looked like i was having twins... and i kept getting told i wouldn't make my due date...

i was 12 days over and she was 7lb14 so not big at all!!

i don't think they can every predict 100%

I was told Aimee and Nathan were bigger than average babies. Nathan was measuring about 6 weeks ahead for ages and Aimee about 3 weeks ahead. So quite accurate for me. They weren't tiny but they weren't massive either. Aimee was 8lb 11oz and Nathan was 9lb 5oz. My 1st measured spot on all the way through and she was 6lb 11oz.

If the MW thought your baby was overly big she would have said something by now I am sure. If she has not mentioned it I'd not bother as its a bit late to be having a growth scan if there has been no cause for concern before now. Besides the size of your bump has no real bearing on the size of your baby. It could be you have more fluid, a heavy placenta....

Also its meant to be easier to push out a larger baby than a smaller one

My LO was 9lb 15ozs at birth. We knew he was on the bigger side as we had growth scans at 34 and 37 weeks. But I was never worried about it. He was born naturally, at home, a few days past his due date. Straightforward delivery with a second degree tear (no worse than many women who have much smaller babies).

These guesses aren't anything to get worried about. I was constantly being told i was small. I think the theory is your bump should be the length to the week. So like 35cm for 35weeks. The max i got upto was 35cms and she was fairly big 8lb 3oz. Yet i had a growth scan at 39+5 and i was apparently having a 6lber!
The MW will tell you if they're a bit worried.

Hello

I think the predictions are hit and miss tbh. I had several growth scans and I was told my baby was on the big side. They predicted she would be about 9lb or more.
In fact, my little girl was only 7lb 7oz when she was born at 40 weeks.

i was measuring only 2 weeks ahead , leland was born at 34 weeks at 6lb5oz , he woulda been a 10lb baby !

I dont think they have a clue, i was told isla would be small (5-6lb) and she was a week early and 8lb12! Morgan was said to be quite big and wasnt he was 8lb12 too! :rotfl:

My fundal height was huge but my midwife predicted 7lb at 39+3. Connie was born 5 days later at a whopping 8lb 9oz. So yes, they don't really know!!!

I got told near the end with Aaron that he was going to be big, he was 14 days late and weighed 8lb 8.5oz. My midwife says at every appointment that my baby is a big one but when I spoke to the consultant about it he said that the baby felt perfect and was measuring bang on date so no scan or anything.

Everyone said my bump was huge, was i sure i wasnt having twins  and i was never gunna get to term... I went over and was induced and she was 7lb 11oz born which a reasonable size but no huuuge! I had alot of water x

At 32 wks my height of fudus measurement was 38cms and MW sent me for a growth scan that said Baby was within normal perameters (75th centile). At 38 weeks my H of F was 53cms! Again, registrar said Baby was a little big, but nothing to worry about. 5 days before he was born he said he might be 9lbs. He was born weighing 11lbs, 2.5oz! 18hr labour, undiagnosed SPD, back ot back position, emergency c-section.

On that programme called Britian's Biggest Babies a doc said scans aren't that reliable. It's like a man floating in a room full of water and measuring his belt size from the next room and guessing how much he weighs.

My bump was enormous with Lydia, really enormous. Nobody said she was necessarily going to be a HUGE baby or anything but I was told she was going to be 'good sized'. People on the street did keep asking me if I was having twins though.

she came out 10lbs 10oz

With Alex they monitored his growth much more closely because of Lydia having been big. I had a growth scan in late pregnancy which showed him as a little bigger than average, and I'd been measuring a couple of weeks bigger than average for a while at my regular midwife appointments.
But then when I went into hospital to be induced, the midwife that was inducing me said that she didn't think he felt anywhere near as big as a 10lber and that he would probably be around 8lbs or so.

He came out 10lbs 1oz

They just can't tell for sure, you'll have to wait and see.

i was keen to know this too. being a 5'4", boyish-hipped, generally small person i was worried about my massive bump that everyone commented on and my 4 stone weight gain- i thought i'd never get the baby out without splitting in half  so asked the MW at my 38 or 39 week app if she could feel around and guess her weight (u kno when they feel around to check LO's position) and she wouldnt tell me coz she said thats very innacurate of people wo guess weights that way! all she said was "well, she's not a shrimp"! "but u dont need to worry i dont think she's too big"
she was 7lb 7 :D

My bump was huge and I put on 3 stone  I saw my MW on my due date and she said she thought Jacob would be around 8lb 8oz and she wasn't far off! He was born at 8 days overdue and was 8lb 15oz :)

I was always measuring over and had a 7lb 13er.

One of my close friends had regular growth scans, the last being at 34 weeks when her LO was measuring 6lb. She was told horror stories of what might happen when her huge baby was born. He was born 2 weeks late measuring a whopping... 7lb 12oz :rotfl:
