I am breastfeeding and want to express some milk too.

I have done this successfully once, and have the 50ml as a bed time too up and it worked really well...baby was more settled and slept for longer in her own bed before wanting more boob.

I want to do this more (once a night, if that) but struggle to know when to express as I don't want to leave myself short for when she needs feeding in the day.

Any tips would be gratefully received!

xx

Your milk supply is at its fullest in the early morning (around 4am) but around 7am is pretty good too. I would give baby a feed and once it's finished express from the side it fed from. Then do that every morning to build up a freezer supply.x

My lactation consultant said that milk production is at its highest between midnight and 7 am. So yes, goat is right. Of course it's different for everyone but in my case i express once or twice in the middle of the night right after the LO has fed. It's tiring work but worth it as I can get quite a lot out in a short period of time (about 10'minsneah breast or until empty). Plus my baby sleeps about 3-4 stretches between night feeds so I can be assured he won't be short of supply when he next needs it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I've been managing to express enough for a night top up :-)

It's amazing how different the amount is depending on mood. I was watching milk squirting out happily when I was chilled, the momentbk started feeling stressed when thinking of various things.nada...not a drop!
