Hi Ladies,

I am a stay at home mum since September 2014 and have a 20 month old and a baby due in 5 weeks. I am not entitled to SMP or MA as do not quite meet the criteria due to being made redundant in September last year. Looking for a little bit of insight into work situations/benefits etc.

OH not working at mo so been told we can claim joint income support whilst he isn't working but he applied for few jobs yesterday one of which is an ongoing temp job starting ASAP and looking like he may get it in which case we won't be entitled to claim income support which is fair enough.

I know we can apply for working and child tax credits but it won't equate to a lot if anything once he is working. I would happily return to work but unless we would qualify for help with childcare we literally wouldn't be able to afford the fees for 2 children plus our £720 a month rent etc. Does anyone know if you can get any kind of help with childcare payments if you have a low wage but are in a couple/what you can claim full stop if your family only gets £16,000 a year etc? It seems most benefits are only aimed at single parents.

Does anyone have any experience of legitimate work from home jobs that are not a complete scam apart from catalogues (e.g. Avon etc) which don't really earn enough money. I have no problem with going back to work instead of being a SAHM but just not sure how we will manage financially in either situation! :/

What are your ladies plans when it comes to working etc? How do you manage with multiple children and childcare fees?

Sorry for the long badly worded post I am just a bit worried about how things will pan out x

Hey hun I think as u have two children u will b entitled to some taxs credits either working or child or both I know my bro n his wife get them as they dont earn much between them. They say it helps but um nit sure how much it is. Ruby will b two soon so I would look into the 2gether funding I think u might qualify fir that. Bit really 100% sure on anything tho I'm sure someone else will b tho.

I'm not entitled to anything either ma/smp nothing so will have to get back to work before the end of the yr.

Not really got any experience with the child tax credits etc but I think I calculated it for OH and I once on his 22k salary and it definitely said we were entitled to something. I'm not sure exactly what it was but think child tax credits rings a bell but it was around £200 a month. I think I just calculated it on the government website :)

I work from home under the umbrella of Forever Living (nothing like Avon lol I tried that and found the whole catalogue thing and making money really hard) and I'm moving up the marketing plan now and aiming for OH to be able to quit work this time next year. It does take work to move up and get the bigger bonus's , I'm doing a 5 month to manager plan which has me on 1-2k within 5 months :) but I do put a lot of effort into it. A lot of people do work it around full time jobs/children etc and still do well and then once it's taken off use it as a replacement income and leave work. So I do have a good experience with working from home and defo wouldn't do anything else now but definitely isn't any get rich fast schemes or anything.

Always been my dream to be a SAHM but now we want OH to be a SAHD too :) .

I think I remember hearing in the elections that more childcare is going to be covered so definitely worth looking into if you return back to work :). Might be on the gov website :).

Would your OHs temp job possibly lead to a permanent job and could it cover you money wise to be a SAHM? :) xxx

We get 18k from hubbys salary and we get wftc well the child tax credit part of it. It's well worth going in the website and using the calculator to see. Child ben also is a big help while it's here.,

It's definitely worth seeing how much you would be entitled to with tax credits. When my OH lost his job last year, I was on maternity leave still and we were getting £600 a month aswell a small bit of housing benefit. If he gets into a new job, you would still be entitled to something with two children, especially once the new one arrives under 2.
I joined a work from home company. It's free to join and you earn straight away. I'm just currently having a few weeks off of it but happy to give you info If u ever wanted anything x

Thank you ladies lots of helpful info :) yes please Kelly if you could send me the details I would be grateful hun x
