Been Told That Sex Could Start Labour...True?

Hi Mums,

It is my due date today and I have been told for the last couple of weeks that the baby could arrive at any time due to it being so low in my pelvis....

I am starting to get really fed up. I went to se the midwife today and she said that a good sex session would help! Did it work for anyone reading this??

My husband recoiled in horror at the thought - thanks a bloddy bunch!! To be honest, I am not too keen but will do anything to get my little miracle moving!

I had a sweep with my first pregnancy, which worked. The midwife said that sex would work better than a sweep!

Yup. Semen contains prostaglandins which can help your cervix dilate. Orgasms release hormones that could start contractions. Never tried it though, was too bloody uncomfortable to sit let alone sh@g!

Oh god.. have i got to have sex aswell then?? i really cant be arsed! May wait a few more days.. silly question but do you have to have sex and an orgasm for it to work?

I think that an orgasm does help...but...I don't honestly think that I would be capable because I am so uncomfortable and I also would get turned off by the fact that my DH really would not enjoy doing it!!

Semen also gets the cervix dilating but I do not know if he would even be able to perform!!

Sorry.. thats funny.. tried that one too but was never sure if its safe to use with the baby being in there.. thought the vibrations may effect its hearing or something! lol

I have read lots of good things about sex starting labour, and have one friend who swears it worked for her, and I will certainly be giving it a go if and when its necessary - saying that we have continued having sex throughout the pregnancy (at least once a week), and am actually enjoying it more now than I did in Tri 1 and 2........maybe Im just a bit odd

I remember reading that your Hubby really wasnt interested at all, so I guess it might be a bit difficult unless you resort to using a "turkey baster"

Seriously though do you think your hubby could be convinced, it has to be worth a try!!

Yes - think I will try and persuade him. He is really on edge with anticipation of labour....really wants to meet little one....so.....I could play on that!!!

I can't believe I actually have to try and persuade him to do the deed. Perhaps I will take a walk around our local area and ask for volunteers to do the deed.....but then my children won't have a father!!!

I think I may resort to the rampant rabbit!!!

Hi, loads of mw told me to have sex as i went 2weeks over with my last lo, so i got monavated as i really couldnt be bothered and over 3 days i "received" some semen quite a few times and it never worked for me.
sometimes i think its just coincidence but then sometimes i must work

i bearely had any sex thru-out my pregnancy (probably about 3 times!!) then on the eve of 37 weeks we had sex (I didnt orgasm - to uncomfortable!) and my waters broke the following day... so it worked for us

It worked for me! We had sex in the morning and by evening my waters had gone and I was in full labour! I had lost my plug before we tried so not sure whether this helped?
