My son usually goes to sleep on me at about half 8 after some milk and then i put him in his cot and he sleeps then until half 7.
I would really lie to try and get him to go to bed a bit earlier and by himself for when the baby is here.
I put him in his cot tonight awake at 7;30 he cried for 15 minutes and then went to sleep.
woke up at 8:15 for some milk and then cried for a bit and went back to sleep and i haven't heard anything since.
Should I just keep going with this or this anything else I could do?
Thanks.

Do you think he's tired by 7ish? I put Evie down at 7pm and she is 15 months old and usually shattered by 7pm. I give her milk first then teeth etc then she gets herself off to sleep. When I first started trying to put her down awake she would cry and I'd go and stroke her head etc every 5 mins or so until she fell asleep. She now gets herself off every night. Maybe try giving him his milk around 7pm and put him down awake and if he seems unsettled try and soothe him but try not to pick him up. Stroke his head / tummy etc and once he seems calm see if he'll fall asleep. It might take a few nights but they seem to get used to things quickly and it is well worth it if they can do it themselves. Hope that helps and I've not just waffled on :eh: xx

Well he still has alot of naps in the day. hes a boy who loves his sleep
He gets up at 7:30sih then has a 30 min - 1 hour nap at about 11am. then another 1 hour nap about 3 or 4ish.
If he doesn't have his naps he gets so so so irritable and just goes to sleep whenever he is at about 6pm because hes so tiered.
Even at half 8 he hardly has any milk as well, he only really drinks his milk in the mornings.
I might see if he will go to bed at around 7ish, as tonight he has slept fine so I guess that means he needed his sleep lol

My Evie naps about the same too. She wakes at 6.30 - 7am, has a nap at 10.30 - 11.00ish for an hr and then again at 3pm for an hr. By 7pm she is ready for bed. I'm lucky she has always loved her sleep. Eating? Well that's another can of worms lol :wall2:

Sam sleeps from 8/8.30ish until 8/8.30, but if I woke him up an hour earlier one morning he'd quite happily go to bed at 7 that night - have you tried starting the whole day earlier, and move meal times, bath time etc. an hour earlier too so that he won't notice the change?

what do u mean hun?
like wake him up at 6am?

That is what I meant but I forgot he was getting up quite early as it was  If he has a nap in the afternoon you could wake him up an hour early from that and give him dinner, bath etc. an hour early x

Yeah good idea :)
My plan is a bit crap today though as hes only just had a nap for the first time today at 4:45pm :(
So I dought he will be tiered at 7?

My kids go to bed at half 6 sometimes earlier if they ask and get up at half seven the next day, I wouldn't suggest civic him milk if he wakes back up for some as he might start to take advantage of it my kids did they Are 2 and a half and juT over one and a half at 19mnths they have slept throught from 2 Days and 2 and weeks old so I cNt really offer support on getting older babies into routine but I'm sure the other lovley ladies will have advice x

Jacob goes to bed at 6-6.30 and sleeps till about 7-7.30 when he hears daddy get up. He has got himself off to sleep since he was 6 weeks old. He only has one hour long nap at about 11 am.

Sometimes if he's driving me nuts, I can put him in his cot and he will have a sleep if he's tired or not lol. Falling asleep by themselves is a skill, they have to learn how to do it. If he cried I would just go to him and stroke his head or talk or sing gently to him just for reassurance. Lucas begins his sleep 'training' tonight so Jacob is staying at grandma's just incase he cries alot Xx
