Bed sharing

So far bubs has refused to sleep in his Next 2 Me and screams his wee head off if we attempt it. We have therefore decided that, for now at least, we will bed share as he passes out for hours.

I've gotten advice from my mw as to safe bed sharing practices and she's happy that what we have in place is safe for him - no loose sheets, duvets or pillows around him and he is on his back. Next 2 Me is lowered so the top of the lip is in line with our mattress so he'll just go back into it should he wriggle or roll, there's nothing he can get wedged in, and his blanket is tucked in so can't go over his face. We are ebf too.

My question is, how does it work as they get older and roll? Ideally we want to transition him to the Next 2 Me before then as it's much safer when he does roll, but what happens if he continues to scream at it? I'm loathe to put him in between me and hubby as that absolutely isn't safe. Do we invest in a bed guard at that point so he doesn't roll out of bed? Both boys have been early rollers, so I'm asking now so I'm ahead of the game.

Hi I haven't experienced this but I'm looking at getting a sleepyhead for this baby (guilt over not needing to buy anything for second baby haha). Anyway, it sounds like it could help you?

I'm thinking something like that might be an option. He does love being snuggly so might be something to invest in

From your signature it seems he's still so tiny so I'd say it sounds about normal he doesn't want to be in there. My 3rd wasn't such a fan of being anywhere but on me until around 4 weeks. I also had a sleepyhead and it worked so well. I just think at his age it's just hard for them not to be with you.
As for rolling as soon as mine started rolling I'm afraid to say I stopped using it really and moved the cot next to our bed and used that instead.

Yes I'd get a bed guard too for the bed sharing or if you end up getting a sleepy head, putting that in the bed.

Thank you, yes he's a week old today! I don't mind having him close at all, as you say he's still such a tiny squish it's only to be expected. He loves being snuggly and I'm not complaining!

Good to know a bed guard would be appropriate in the future if he decides the Next2Me isn't for him as he gets bigger, thanks for that.

We co sleep, he sleeps between us. We have a super king bed, so lots of room. He sleeps on his own blanket, at my boob height and I sleep sort of around him so he can't go up or down. My oh doesn't move when he sleeps so he is just a barrier on that other side really. We don't sleep with a duvet either, we have cellular blankets.

When we first coslept we didn't use a bedguard or anything as she was so tiny and couldn't move. I was thinking of a bedguard but then she started going in her cot so she didn't need it.
Now she's nearly 8 month she's starting to cosleep sometimes again but because she is bigger now I put her in between us. My husband wakes like nights when she isn't in the bed saying stuff like "where is she " and "don't move your squishing her" haha so that made me realise he was aware of her kinda thing He uses the duvet but me and Imogen go on top of the duvet and she has her gro bag and I wear a dressing gown. Or I sleep on top of the duvet so it can't be pulled up by him and I have my arm round Imogen.
Actually that reminds me lol when she was that sorta age where she started to roll but was still too small to go in between us she used to come in early morning and we used to nap together and she would go on her side with me holding her in my arm . Aw I miss that lol she wouldn't let me do that now.
So yeah maybe bedguard? Or see how he goes in case he ends up going in cot or whatever by then?
So jel of your bed snowbee. We just have a double so I only just feel I can put her in between us.
I always wake up in a lot fo pain though as him and her take up all the bed lol if she keeps coming in il have to Invest in a king size especially if I get pregnant again!
I usually feel more comfortable Co sleeping if I've had a bit of a sleep first so then I'm not feeling that tired and I'm not fully asleep when I go back to sleep lol .Xx

I had the same problem i think its because its so big. Can you try a moses basket. My baby just slept with me most of ths timw but i kept trying evwryday with the crib and would hwr in it whilst i got ready in hooe she would gwt used to it. Sorry thats not much help x

Honestly going from a double to a super king was a revelation, so so good. Our bedroom isn't very big and with the bed in there isn't any spare space but we only sleep in there so I don't think it matters! If you can squeeze one in go for it!

I have SPD pain left over from the other two but it does die down, for me anyway. Hopefully it does after this one too!

We haven't really the space for a Moses unfortunately, we would have to move the next2me and there's nowhere for it to go. Badly planned perhaps

I don't have anything to add in terms of bed sharing as we're not doing it, but I've found my kiddo is more comfortable in the moses basket placed inside the next to me crib. I think the crib is a little too roomy for him and he feels more secure in the basket, and the basket fits exactly inside!

We didn't do bedsharing unless she was unwell or really unsettled, just because I found I couldn't sleep a wink with her in bed with me! However, a friend of mine has bedshared all through and her son is now 15 months and walking. I asked her how she did it with a fully mobile toddler and she said she has the mattress on the floor and sleeps with him on that. Her husband sleeps in a different room in a bed. That's one way to deal with a mobile baby, if it helps you at all!

I bought a Moses yesterday after I woke up to him face first into me and thinking he wasn't breathing! Had a heart attack, thank goodness he was ok but I couldn't continue. He slept much better in the Moses too, and I can move around with kicking off my SPD so it's a win win (so far anyway)
