Scientific study about life in the womb and how it shapes our entire life :oooo:

Just had a look at this on iPlayer and it's a very good program. I remember looking at some of the older studies mentioned when I was studying at university so lots of very good quality research went into the factors that they mention.

The effects on nutrition in pregnancy is one of the factors that is thought to be responsible for differences in health of different European countries. For example, the French eat as much fat and drink as much alcohol as many other countries in Europe but have much lower rates of heart disease and diabetes. This may seem puzzling until you find out that during the second world war pregnant women in France were entitled to extra rations, a policy that was apparently unusual in Europe at the time...

Fascinating stuff!

I meant to say how interesting this was when I was watching it! The bit about women developing all of their eggs while in the womb blew my mind, our fate was decided the day our grandparents had sex and conceived our mums. It all makes sense though!

Found it on iplayer and watched it, very interesting.

Also worth a listen to is The First 1000 Days on Radio4. First to 30 min episodes are on iplayer. They cover the a lot of the information from the Horizon programme but take it further, up to development of 2 years old. What they said in the second programme about Omega 3 and vitamin D on brain development is very interesting.
