Bartholin gland cyst

Has anyone ever had one of these?

I got one in my first preg. It was fine throughout then I had to get an op 2 years later as it went to an abscess.

I'm now 24 weeks and it comeback early preg. I've to go and see consultant on tue to see if they want to do anything with it before labour. It's not infected yet this time but it is big about size of egg.

Going through this right now Hun. Had one at 28 weeks which they drained and its come back at 36 weeks. Off to hospital shortly. I feel your pain. Xxxx

I had one about three yeas ago, about four cms around.

Had surgery to have it removed. Then had another surgry a year later as the wound handnt healed up and i still had a hole there! Ouchies!

Hope they can sort it for you hun.

I'm stuck in hospital for the night they planned to operate but it's started weeping on it own. Lovely.
I bloody love morphine. Honestly I've never know pain like it. X

Oh that is good!! Mine was an abcess like 4cm deep I had to have a marsupialisaton (sp) where I had to be put to sleep and cut open and have the boil stitched open ...its epic its oozing hun it should clear soon

I have the UTMOST sympathy for you darling!!

This is what i had. They packed it with gauze to keep the wound open so it could heal from the inside outwards. OMG did it hurt when they removed the packing bought me out in sweat!!

Then the damn wound didn't heal properly so i had to go back a year later for them to debride it to start the healing process again! Still isnt right now!!

Thanks ladies. Mine at the moment has not gone to an abscess or infection. It's just huge.

When it did go to the abscess 2 tyears ago I was operated under general anesthetic and had the masupilization. When it went to an abcess i swear i have never in my life felt pain like it. I coud not stand up straight and could barely walk.

For me the marsuplization worked great, healed perfectly and i swear tge pain from the surgery was nothing compared to the pain with the abcess. For 2 years I had no further problems until I got pregnant again. They don't seem to be generally related to pregnancy but for me they defo are.

I've got the obgyn at ante natal clinic tues morn to look at this one as its about size of an egg.

I'm in two minds what to do. They prob won't do op until after preg so only other option would be lancing it and I've heard that is usually useless not o mention painful. Given its not infected I am wondering I shoul just b left alone. Any advice??

I can't really offer advice as apparentlyone has been infected both times? But I'd imagine you're in just as much pain anyway if its that big??? You have to think about how your going to birth with it? It can be done but it will clearly make it more painful? That's why I had to get mine sorted...

When pregnant
2nd night in hospital for me. The abscess has pretty much drained apparently but the swelling wont go down, the whole area is a size I didn't think was possible. Bit worried which is why I've decided to stay in. Not leaving till I can walk!!!

I have a small one that I've had since I was fifteen. They left it because its not gone to abcess, and doesn't cause me any pain. They'll drain it if it starts causing me bother x.

It doesn't actually cause me any pain despite its size. It's just the pressure feeling when sitting on the loo or floor! Lol.
For me, mine went to an abscess after sex. Apparently the doctor said having sex can infect it, because te gland is trying to lubricate n can't do it effectively. Being 6 months pregnant sex hasn't been on the agenda! Lol

Yeah birthing with it was what made me go to doc to be referred as I knew it was getting bigger. Ideally I would like to have the masupilization op again under general but I knw they won't do it whilst preg as too many risks, plus all the blood in the pelvic area can cause excessive bleeding. My gp says she doesn't think they will do anything. She swift feels filled with pus! Lovely lol

Will see what consultant recommends on Tuesday.

Hello

Just a wee update. Saw consultant today and decided its best to leave cyst as its not infected or causing me any pain. I'm am planning a vbac this time and he said it will likely burst in labour and that's the best option for it as I will be too otherwise occupied to feel/notice it!

I'm happy with this. He said to me he would not say it s a bartholin abscess. I felt like saying 'no sh*t*ing me'. I flipping know its not an abscess as I had that 2 years ago and i crippled with pain'. I've never felt pain like it! Lol.

So that's that.

Oh Hun I am glad that they don't need to take any action.
As long as your sure its not causing you pain, how far along are you? Really hope it stays settled for you and doesn't flare up.

I'm okay, taking lots of salt baths and on antibiotics, still getting yukky discharge but swelling is going down so just got everything crossed it heals and doesn't reoccur before baby!!!
