Hi everyone, just wondered your thoughts on a babymoon. Every site you look on advises you at have one to enjoy bonding as a couple before the baby is here. Before we found out I was pregnant we were thinking of doing a cheapy in February ( we get married next August so was just something to break up the year). Obviously now all our plans have changed! I'm due around 16th April but was just thinking we could still maybe get away in January, I'll be between 25-28 weeks in January.
What does everyone think about flying around this time? I'm thinking possibly the canaries?
I am a first timer so don't really know what to expect with regards to how I'll be feeling ect... But I'm just thinking a little bit of sun and relaxation around that time might be just what I need!
Any thoughts/comments/experiences would be appreciated...
Thanks x

How far is the flight? It's safe to fly then, you just need to stay hydrated and maybe wear compression stockings. I'm meant to be going to Japan at 30 weeks, still debating what to do. My doctor told me the flying isn't the issue, it's being in another country if something goes wrong.. so if you want to go then, make sure you have health insurance that will cover pregnancy complications, as most won't.

The closer I get to my holiday (I'm 21 weeks now) the more uncomfortable I get even just driving 1hr to work or walking around the shops all day, so I'm starting to think I wouldn't enjoy my holiday at 30 weeks anyway!

Ill be flying between 28-29 weeks, from here to France which is over 9 hours, I plan to walk around a lot and drink tons of water but I’m not worried at all. I’m sure you’ll be fine!

I just made a 28 hour trip at 21 weeks pregnant. We have a trip to South Korea booked this week at 22 weeks. Also have a trip planned to go home at 29.5 weeks that is 24 hours long.

I would recommend an aisle seat (or upgrading to first/business if that is financially possible), bringing water and making sure you stay hydrated throughout the flight, walking around (shouldn't be a problem if you are drinking enough water, you will have to pee often! :D), bring snacks and tums/tylenol, and maybe a travel pillow to put behind your back. I have never used compression stockings but if you want to take the precaution as it is your first flight, go for it!

Traveling while pregnant isn't difficult, but can be a little uncomfortable if you don't prepare.

Take the time for the two of you and enjoy your babymoon! Much needed before the little one arrives! <3

All I can say is make sure you have really good travel insurance that will cover you one of my friends went to Amsterdam at 25 weeks pregnant and ended up going into labour but she was covered and her and little one finally came home well and healthy after a longer stay there for little one to be in the special care baby unit there

Thanks for your replied everyone. It would only be a 4 hour flight, so from what most of you have said it shouldn't really be an issue. We already have an annual travel insurance policy ( we go away a lot!!) But I could always call them and upgrade so I'm covered!

Check if the airline need a letter from your doctor to travel, some insist on it

I'm only very early in my pregnancy but we're due to go away in 6 weeks.
I asked the Dr if i can fly and he said take the normal measures with the flight socks ect and you should be fine. He told me that the flight won't make anything go wrong with my pregnancy that isn't going to anyway (he didn't say it like that but he meant that lol)

Also a first timer here. We went on a city break in Europe when I was about 6 weeks. No problems other than I was totally exhausted. We still had a good time but of all the trips we've done while I've been pregnant that was the one that was affected most by a mile. Of course it was already booked so we just had to work with it.

We did a long weekend in Scotland around 13 weeks. Again that was booked in advance. My energy was much better. Only issue on that trip was I nearly threw up on the plane and then again on the tram! I suffer horrible travel sickness normally but not on planes/trams and I've had no other pregnancy related sickness whatsoever but it was definitely a pregnancy/travel combination!!

Also went to Spain at 17 weeks. No issues at all. When we spoke to travel insurance they said they didn't consider pregnancy a medical condition so no need to inform them.

We were originally planning to go away this month but I would have been around 32 weeks so we decided to do the last minute Spain trip instead. As first timers we also had no idea how I would feel but in all honesty I would feel totally fine about going away in terms of how I feel generally and if I had something booked I would go. Everyone is different though and I know I've been exceptionally well as I'm almost 31 weeks now but I'm still doing nearly everything as I would normally. Also I'm very petite and really not carrying big so I don't feel 'heavy' and weighed down if you know what I mean.

I think if I was booking something knowing I would be 25-28 weeks, I'd make sure I was back before 28 weeks to avoid fit to fly letters etc and also make sure that travel insurance covered me.

Hope that helps. Definitely agree that you should spend quality time together before baby arrives!!

Thanks! That's a massive help! We are looking at 1st or 2nd week in January so I'll be 25-26 weeks and will be something nice to look forward to after Christmas! I go on a lot of holidays and don't tend to see any pregnant woman that's why I was a bit unsure.

I flew at 34 weeks with my first was 35 when we flew home had a fit to fly letter but they never asked me for it. Don’t see any issues unless you have a medical conditions

.I had a Caribbean cruise booked for January from NY and I would have been around 24 weeks with my 2nd. I decided against it and I'm glad I did because my pregnancy was just awful, sickness, back issues, bleeding, exhaustion etc. I know youre not travelling that far, but I went away just down to England at 27 weeks for the weekend and it was awful. I was swollen, exhausted and miserable. I was physically healthy, just a crap pregnancy, Later in pregnancy can definitely be harder than say 6-14 weeks

Sorry to be a downer. Just giving two sides. You don't know how you'll be feeling then. If your pregnancy is issue free, and you take precautions then it could be a nice idea. As long as its not too hot. Heat and sun that far pregnant can be miserable. I don't think you need a fit to fly before 28 week, but I'd check to be sure. I'm going to the canaries in January with a 5 year old and a 6 month old and I'd rather be pregnant for the travelling haha. x

Like above - if you’re going later in pregnancy I would just make sure you’re going somewhere where you know there are appropriate services if things (god forbid) went wrong. And maybe try to avoid too long a flight if you can.
I know a horror story of a work colleague, which I won’t share in any detail, but she basically couldn’t get to an approptiate treatment centre where they were going (island) and when they landed the private jet didn’t get them where they needed to go in time. That was around 30 weeks I think. Xxx
