Can anyone resolve a debate i've been having please?

We have been discussing about having your newly born baby in his/her baby seat in the front seat next to you while your driving alone. When you partner is with you then great have them in the back seat but if you alone i would feel more at ease if my little one was next to me.

However someon has informed me that NO WAY should you ever ever have you baby in the front seat.

i know you would need to ensure that the air bag is switched off at teh front but i don't see the harm in having your baby in the front seat of the car?????

What does everyone else do?

Thanks

As long as your airbag is off (or doesn't exist) then your fine to have the baby in the front with you.

I did it all the time with Mhairi!

The only reason not to put a car seat in the front is if there is an airbag, but if no airbag or turned off as you say then yes put it in front. Like you if im on my own i have to have baby in front seat where i can see him, and luckily my car has no airbag. OH's car does so if we go anywhere in his car i go in back with baby. Dont listen to whoever told you that, i think they just didnt hear it right.xx

I personally only ever put our LO in the back. We bought a mirror so we can see him and he's been used to that since birth and is very settled in the back rear facing. Statistically it's safer for baby in the back. Studies etc.

I also feel it's distracting having a baby in the front.

So long as airbag is disabled baby can travel in front passenger seat.

I personally wouldn't put LO in the front, as it is safer for them to be in the back. But it isn't dangerous for them to be in the front and I can see why you would want to if you are on your own. We also had the mirror so we could see her and it has never bothered her.

same here, she's in the back its safer and far less distracting and we can always see her in the mirror, after all she's asleep most of the time.

I have always had mine on the front for the first 3 months then in the back with a mirror, Morgan had febrile convulsions while i was driving and so it was safer for him to be in the front so i could see it happening and pull over quickly. I feel they are less distracting in the front as there is no leaning backwards trying calm them or pop a dummy back in, if they are by your side you can do it easily without taking your eyes off the road, the sooner you do it the sooner they stop crying and distracting you.

Only thing is its a pain for your OH to go in the back just so baby can have thier seat! :rotfl:

Same as Lainey. I didn't have an airbag in my old car and Finlay was in the front all the time with me. I had a 3 door and it was a nightmare to get him in and out the back all the time so kept him in the front

He's in the back of the new car now though as its five door.
