Just been into superdrug and got some low dose (75mg) Aspirin. Was surprised I didn't have to ask at the pharmacy for it, it was just off the shelf.

Anyway I've got a few questions

Has anyone else taken it? And what was your experience of it?

Does anyone know when you should start taking it? is it from OV or from when you get your BFP or even from AF?

Has anyone who's had a previous miscarriage asked their doctor about it? Was the doctor dismissive of it or did they think it would help?

And if you are lucky enough to get pregnant when should you stop taking it? Should it be before your due date as it could cause more bleeding?

Blimey, I had a few more questions than I though I did  Just wanted some opinions really, cheers :D

Thanks for that I'll go to superdrug for mine too

would be interested in replies to

and if anyone has progesterone cream stories too! and where did they buy it. make etc.

oh i want answers to these questions too. esp interested in the cream. for some reason i had convinced myself i mc cuz of progesterone imbalance anyway.

maybe we would be better off asking in tri one?

i'm convinced progesterone played a role with me. As we have breast cancer through the family thats usually associated with too much eostrogen. if its safe to use the cream i am gonna! Just need more RL info on it.

i def wanna use it but same with u wanna be 100% its safe. i want to use every precaution but at the same time dont mess about too much!

Double post!

Ok I think I can answer a few of these!

Has anyone else taken it? And what was your experience of it?
Yes - I took it with both my children, on Doctors orders as I had a history of miscarriages. I lost 3 babies, then my 4th pregnancy I started Low Dose Aspirin at 4wks and went on to have my son. I did start Clexane at 11wks, but by then with my other pregnancies, I had already lost the babies.

Does anyone know when you should start taking it? is it from OV or from when you get your BFP or even from AF?
Well I only took it from when my pregnancies were confirmed, but this was just over 4 wks with both. There are benefits of taking it from Ovulation as it can aid in preparing the uterus for pregnancy, but this would mean taking it until pregnant and there are risks in taking Aspirin long term.

Has anyone who's had a previous miscarriage asked their doctor about it? Was the doctor dismissive of it or did they think it would help?
My RPL consultant told me to start it as soon as I knew I was pregnant. This was before they found out I had "Sticky Blood" so almost what they advise if you have a RPL history with no known cause. My dealings with specialists have always been very positive about the role of Low Dose Aspirin in preventing pregnancy loss, however there are experts out their who's opinions vary widely on the subject.

And if you are lucky enough to get pregnant when should you stop taking it? Should it be before your due date as it could cause more bleeding?
I had to take it all the way through. Low dose aspirin on its own does not pose a risk to haemoraging in labour/ surgery as its not a high enough dose. I was even on Clexane(Heparin) up until 6 weeks post natally, I just had to ensure it was all highlighted in my notes in case I needed an epidural or c-section.

Hope that answers a few of your questions!

I was on Cyclogest, which is a Progesterone pessary up until I was 12 weeks with my son, but this was prescribed. You can't buy it over the counter in the UK.

i'll have a good google and put it here what i find, I think at the end of the day it will have to be our risk if we use it. The doctors wont test progesterone in the uk i read.

Most women prefer to use the progesterone cream in small quantities during pregnancy. Studies indicate this reduces stretch marks caused due to pregnancy. Light usage does not seem to have any unpleasant effects on the fetus if the mother uses natural progesterone.

Alternatives to this cream or synthetic progesterone are known to have a number of side effects on both the mother and the fetus. Studies indicate that babies whose mothers used progesterone cream during pregnancy are surprisingly healthy and did not experience toxemia during birth.

Most doctors these days recommend the usage of this cream during pregnancy or right after delivery. Mothers should stop applying the cream a couple of weeks before delivery in most cases. It can be applied on breasts, lower back, abdomen, or thighs to prevent stretch marks.

Some mothers use some dosage during the first six months of pregnancy and increase the dosage during the last trimester. The usage can be continued until about one month after delivery, as this provides relief from post partum depression. However, it is suggested to consult the doctor before continuing to use the cream.

Women who have a history of miscarriage will find progesterone cream particularly useful. It has been proven in a number of cases that usage of progesterone cream can help prevent miscarriages and premature labor. Though most physicians prefer to administer the natural progesterone, the prescription-based synthetic progesterone can be just as effective for women who fear miscarriage or premature labor.

Bodies of pregnant women usually produce a large amount of progesterone. If this is not the case then that might result in either miscarriage or pre-term labor. Such women can use progesterone cream to avoid such accidents.

its also a cure for endometriosis, but you have to make sure you get th right sort of cream.

Thanks rachael  I doubt my doctor is going to prescribe me anything though, but its not going to stop me asking!!!! Hopefully for my age they'll take pity and point me in the right direction even if its unnoficial advice.

I'm still confused on when to start the low doze aspirin and when to stop without any diagnosis of a blood clotting problem.

I think i'm going to order some today  then i can take it with me on the 2nd to show the doctor.

Generally no, a lot of doctors don't support prescribing Progesterone in pregnancy, the mind set is if your Progesterone levels start dropping, the pregnacy has ended and the Progesterone won't stop the inevitable. However you have nothing to lose by asking!
-Mine was actually prescribed by the fertility Clinic I was under, not my GP, as i got pregnant following a failed IVF cycle. Their protocol was to prescribe "Leutal Phase Support" in the form of Cyclogest Pessaries from Egg Transfer until 12 weeks pregnant.

With no known blood problem, you would take as soon as you knew you were pregnant...then proberbly just until your 12 week scan.
-But saying that, the Aspirin is such a low dose it does not halm the baby if you want to take it until the birth.

found this
http://www.stages-in-pregnancy.com/natu ... cream.html

seems you cant lose on the asprin then!

yeh i've read conflicting things of the progesterone, some doctors think it has no effect, others think it can prevent a m/c when there are problems and you should m/c, and others seem to swear by it.

I think i have nothing to lose to try both asprin and progesterone, and from what i've read about the progesterone i might then use all the time anyway especially about the breast cancer and pms.

Holly I think one of the ex-chartstalkers used progesterone cream, not 100% sure but you could post in their off topic thread to ask if they did and where they got it from

thanks mrs metal

i'm wavering on buying some BIOVA it's £15.95 free p&p
natural progesterone cream, just not sure how much youre meant to apply for pregnancy, but suppose the directions are the amount!
Says 63 dozes per container, so imagine thats a months supply or 2 months supply.

Thanks babydust
I ordered serenity natural progesterone £17.99 for 3 months supply, it says lasts 3 months depending on what youre using it for, so will make it last 3 months as i dont want to overdo it.
