Been watching a crib on ebay which started at £4.99, was expecting it to go for about a tenner but went for £30 and it was used!!! .

I've still got nowhere for her to sleep so really hoping she doesn't come early.

Cribs are so expensive, the best deal I've found is £70 for crib, mattress, bedding , bumpers and drapes. Haven't got £70 though :( .

She is going to have to sleep in a drawer at this rate!

Was going to borrow a friends moses basket but she'll grow out of it too quick and I can't fit the cot in the bedroom :wall:

Not necessarily, my DD was in a moses basket until bang on 5 months when she went into her cot, we didn't have a crib.

If you think she's expensive now then just wait til she's here! They always need something!

Agreed!

Evie went into her cot at 2 weeks

Now it's nappies. milk (BREASTFEED!), bottles, wipes, toys, clothes, bouncer....

:) Can't wait for Xmas though... loads of new toys from other people's bank accounts! :rotfl: :cheer:

Was she ok in her cot in a room on her own from 2 weeks? Not sure if I feel comfortable doing that so early.

Don't really want to waste money on cribs though.

Could you not buy a travel cot (a cheap little one) from Argos or something until you can afford a proper crib/cot? xx

We have gone for a crib this time, as my son lasted about 3 months in his moses basket before outgrowing it, was a bit of a waste really. Havent spent loads though, bought a 2nd hand one off ebay for £25 then just bought a new mattress. Have also gone for basic bedding and no fancy crib sets or drapes etc, bought a couple of fitted sheets, also off ebay for £5 new and a couple of baby sleeping bags so no need for sheets and blankets. All in all it has cost about £40 max, which I dont think is too bad if it lasts 6 months or so. We should be able to sell it on again after and use the money towards the next bed so dont feel like Im wasting money.

You could always just co-sleep, caitlyn is normally in with us now, altho she will go in her crib, think OH prefers her in bed with us

what about freecycle? Just for the crib though, not the mattress.

If you can fit a travel cot in your room then maybe you could try that. I found a moses basket to be a waste as she hated it and only slept in it for a couple of weeks.
Dont bother with fancy bedding hun. All i use is a sheet to cover the mattress and LO sleeps in a sleeping bag. Although i am not sure if you can use these from birth tho  Only bout a tenner from matalan/tescos
When she goes into her own room she will just have fitted sheets for the mattress and i intend on continuing using sleeping bags.

Ugh, they are SO expensive!!! and so demanding of all kinds of 'stuff'

Maybe you could try the freeadd's for a crib or something, atleast you'll be able to go look at it first too.

Awww  I spent my first night at home in a washing basket because my mum wasn't reay for me! :rotfl: It didn't do me any harm ;) At least I don't think so!

YES! She sleeps like a starfish so the moses basket was useless. Now she's in the cot a few feet away from the bed (she hasn't got her own room yet!) and comes into our bed about 5am for a cuddle.

Like Sharne says- babies used to sleep in drawers! :rotfl:

I know you haven't got long left now but maybe see if there is a local NCT sale near you- or hunt around in charity shops- as long as you buy a new mattress it'll be fine.

You don't really need bumpers (they aren't recommeneded now and just buy a baby sleeping bag (don't bother buying loads- I did and Evie hates them!

mamas and papas pop up travel cot is excellent, it is much bigger than a moses basket and we saw one being tried out with a chubby 4 month old baby (gorgeous little chap) and he had loads of room as its quite wide too.
Anyway mamas and papas have them half price at £20 now and they are cheaper in the shop than you can get them on ebay and you can take it everywhere with you as it folds real small.

I agree, Babies are expensive things but just wait till it's here - it's a never ending cash payout!!!

Jacob slept in his moses basket until he was 8 weeks old, he grew out of it then!!! We put him in his cot in his bedroom (much to the annoyance of the midwives who said the cot should be in with us - they even suggested us taking it apart to put back up in our room!) we didn't though and he slep ok in it - I think perhaps better, we found that his little noises and DH loud snoring noises were disturbing everyone!! I just wish he would stay in his bed now - we have a little visitor during the night wanting to get in with us!!!

I have kept the moses basket and will use it again with LO - for how long though I'm not sure!!!!

I really like it Hazel! It'll double up as so much when lil madam gets older!! Little play pen, somewhere to put toys etc... & Like you said, it's easy to pack away as well which is always handy!

:cheer: Go for it :D x

I've got a moses basket and cotbed for her, she uses the moses atm though had both naps yesterday on the sofa and regularly sleeps in my bed with me. I think the moses was worth the money even if she only gets a few months out of it, i havn't tried the cot yet she just seems too tiny for it.

As for expense when they're here the only things i've bought for her so far are nappies and cotton wool balls, oh and some refill cassettes for the nappy wrapper. ATM she's not expensive and when my child benefit comes in it'll easily cover those costs. it's when she gets bigger shes going to drain me lol

I like that travel cot and being on the floor isn't a problem as long as you and DH dont sleepwalk or wake-up confused, Tally's moses is by the side of my bed and i never forget she's there, and she's on the floor too.

I got my moses basket from a friend of my mum's, and just got a new mattress. ds was in the basket for 3 months then went in his cot in his own room.

I asked on freecycle the other day though because a friend of my mums' daughter is due her baby in a couple of weeks & she's only 17 so doesn't have a lot of money. I ended up being offered 5 moses baskets plus loads of other stuff like bouncers, swings, clothes & blankets. So freecycle is a good try, and if noone offers you anything you haven't lost anything by asking.

That travel cot does look good though, and will probably last well.
