I'm holding out for 6 months so that I can follow baby led weaning. Its really hard to wait, its like getting a birthday gift a few days before and although you're dying to open it you know you cant and must wait.

She's really watching me even more so now when I eat. She always watches me have breakfast and really stares, she doesnt grab out though yet and she will usually watch me for a minute and then get back to hitting herslef in the face/head with her rattle. I have also caught her making a chewing motion with her mouth, although I think that's just coincidental cause she hasn't done it when I'm eating, just at other times during the day. Im on countdown so not long to go.

Anyone else out there still not weaned their baby yet or holding out for 6 months?

FWIW I started weaning Galen at around 5 1/2 months. He had 2 meals of baby rice and fed himself with the spoon (I put it on the spoon and held it, he grabbed spoon and shoved it in his mouth) and then we moved on to steamed veggies and banana.

You can start a bit earlier if you want. Just be aware that your LO might not be able to grab and hold the food as well nor may she chew quite as well as waiting those extra couple of weeks. Galen chewed well from early on but his hands found it tricky to pick up veg sticks so we had to hold those out for him to take from us. Also you are more limited to what you can feed them (fruit and veg) before 6 months, wheras from 6 months they can have pretty much everything. But you can slowly build up and get them at least used to sitting with you, holding and trying out some foods. Galen was fine from day one and we had no problems with starting a bit earlier. The only downside was the extra work it was for me preparing these things each day just for him. Although I always ate a little of what he was having so he saw me eating it too.

Since last week Galen has been eating carrot, broccoli, roasted parsnip, sweet potato and butternut squash. Also had banana, pear, kiwi and stewed apple mixed with natural yogurt. Today he had fried egg and loved it :D Also is now on rice cakes (organic natural ones) and loves gumming and chewing on those, Easier to hold also.

Tomorrow toast for breakfast!

I know exactly how this feels. We started weaning 4 days before 6 months (just felt right and we were having baby corn!). Good on you for waiting!

I gave LO an occassional taste before six months. I mainly did this when I was out and had her sitting on my lap and she just wouldn't let me pass food into my mouth without grapping it. I would just give her a bit of veggie (cucumber or even a raw piece of carrot from my salad - knowing that she wouldn't get any out of it) or fruit (banana etc.) to keep her occupied.

But apart from that I waited until six months. Tbh, I liked it as it suits a 'lazy' mum as you will have plenty of time to feed your baby. When you start you will always have to bring some food for your baby when you go out. With breastfeeding only you just have to bring yourself :D

connor started on solids 1 week before 6 months - he'd stolen a strawberry from my plate and scoffed the lot about a week previous to that though

well done on waiting :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

 I'm still here! I know Coopers ready as in he will be able to feed himself, he can sit up and he loves watching me eat if i had him on my knee then he would def grab for it all! ..But i'm just waiting for another week or two so he will be able to chew better. He's still doing well on my milk and he's not going hungry. I'm really looking forward to weaning and everything i read on BLW (which is what we're going to do) makes it even more exciting! :cheer:

Tally already does all the things you describes, grabs my food and drinks and tries to drink like we do or eat things, i think she's only doing it because she's curious, she wants what we have.

I hope to follow BLW too, she'll be nearly 6 months at christmas so we're hoping to hold out until then and let her go crazy with some baby rice or something like that on xmas day.

As long as she's still sleeping well i'm not going to wean her. Plus i want to have the time to really think about the food she's geting and how to feed her and i wont have the time to do it myself until my xmas holidays from uni, then i'll have a month to get her settled with food

I'm trying to hold out till 6 months too. If he starts waking during the night again hungry then I'll look at doing it sooner, but at the moment he sleeps like a log and is still on target growth chart wise. He is taking an interest in watching us eat and knawing on his hands, but he's done that since 3.5 months so I'm not convinced that it's directly related!

Also, Sam was born a month premature and had some tummy problems due to his digestive system being a little premature.

I'll start by 6 months if I haven't already, and will start with mashed sweet potato I think rather than baby rice.

Lol Cooper has never slept through and still wakes 2/3 sometimes more to be fed!

Alex took a looooong time before he was weaned. I started trying him at 6 months, but he never wanted anything but breastmilk. By the time he was 10 months old he was still only having maybe 1 small yoghurt a day, plus breastmilk, and that was all.

He's a MUCH much better eater now, but it really did take a long time, and he dropped a lot on weight percentile.

Lydia was 5 and a half months when she started being weaned. We wanted to hold out to 6 months but we didn't quite make it. She took to food like a duck to water!

Well done. We started on Luke's 6 month birthday. :)
