As of today i am vegitarien again

Yep there is all sorts in a sausage, you check the lable of the packet in your fridge/freezer, I bet the MEAT CONTENT isn't more than 70% now ok I know they use a few percent in things like bread crumbs etc but 30% is a heck of a lot of 'crap' thrown in with the meat....Sainsburys sausages I looked at the other day were 42% meat - OMG I mean that's half a sausage of meat half of hoof, trotter, skin, snout etc...it's disgusting. Since finding that out I have switched to 100% organic sausages and although more expensive they are 92% meat which is about right when you take into account the casing they are in, the bread crumbs and so forth, even top brands like Walls etc contain tiny meat percentages. The bits of grizzle are goodness only knows what. Processed foods, re-formed/re-shaped pieces of ham, chicken, meats etc are the same anything that says "reformed" or "re-shaped" is basically half product and half god only knows what. The turning veggie isn't a new idea to me, it's something I've thought about on and off for ages and the alternatives now are fantastic, it's just a shame they tend to cost more than actual meat does.

Mel: How did you make the switch before? What other things do you buy/use instead? I might get a book on children and vegetarianism see what that says as I know tofu/soya does them just as much good protein wise, plus they could still have fish etc. You've got me thinking about it again now...Hubby hates when I bring this up but the occassional time I've served him say spag bol with soya mince he's not known the difference or a cooked breakfast with veggie bacon etc...he just eats it then afterwards I tell him and he just says "better not have been" in a joke way but he doesn't grumble while eating it so I do wonder....??

ell last time, i cut all meat out even fish but i do know people who only eat a little fish to keep their protein, but then again you can eat eggs so the protein isnt much of a problem, and peanuts are good for it too. Tofu is very high in protein and strictly veggie along with quorn of linda mcartney food too, its quite an interesting way to eat and i quite enjoy quorn bacon

Yeah I don't eat fish (I think I have a phobia actually I'm scared of the bloody things!) but LO could have fish in his diet, Daddy eats it too. I love veggie burgers and quorn products. Humm certinally something to think about, I'm not a big meat fan anyway, never have been.

Well good luck with it hun, im gonna enjoy mashed tattys from now on mmmmmmmm. Its a shame bout chocolate though, is all chocolate out of bounds, how about the 85% coco stuff thats gotta be ok for you to eat? I dont think anyone can really get ill from being veggie mummykay just gotta remember to have vitimins and proteins, like i say you can find in moore foods then you think :)

I was a vegetarain for 10 years but had to start eating some meat again as im aneamic, and back then i couldnt afford all the soya etc to replace what I was losing, so now I eat chicken and fish, and occasionally ham or bacon, but thats it. Anything else makes me feel sick, and I cant handle raw meat without heaving!

Vegetarianism really is a fantastic lifestyle choice if you get the balance right and supplement your diet with things like soya or quorn, but its a minefield working out what other foods have animal by-products in such as gellotine, and can be hard work!
