I was thinking more to take the pressure off...a lot of couples use this method instead of having sex if the guy is struggling. The sperm can last for up to an hour. I've yet to talk him into it..he thinks it's a bit desperate but I just experience so much anxiety each month as I'm usually ready to go and often he's too tired - I think he's feeling the pressure as we've been TTC for ages. It seems to work for a lot of couples.
I would be cautious of how much of that you believe. Sperm can live for up to five days inside the fallopian tubes so it's highly probable that conception is due to the AI method. The sperm itself is only held in the tiniest portion of semen that is first released. If using AI, this semen is mixed with the rest of it and so less sperm is likely to enter the cervix than sperm placed through ejaculation.
Out of interest, how often do you have sex during ovulation time? If it is more than once per day, you will be severely affecting your chances of conception as men can't supply sperm that quickly. Even the healthiest of men with the strongest swimmers will see a decline in sperm numbers if they have sex every day, which is why the advice is to have sex every other day around ovulation. This gives the testes a chance to replenish a good sperm stock and increase chance of conception.
