Can anyone recommend some good aromatherapy websites, or essential oil blends that are good for labour and birth? I've been having a google, but would really appreciate some pointers from anyone with more experience.

Thank you!

I used a blend of lavender and clary sage oil during labour-clary sage is ver potent and I'd recommend only using it during labour-not before unless you're full term x hope that made sense x

I've been using lavender just to chill out in the bath, and apparently being in a calm, relaxed environment can increase the amount of oxytocin you release which can help contractions regulate etc once you're in labour so it's a good one to have in stock! Plus it smells yum :)

Thanks everyone. I've got loads of lavender, been using it quite a lot, especially lately- although my OH announced last night that he's never been keen on it! Ah well, he'll live. I'm going to type up some recipes/blends as he's going to be in charge of everything on the day other than giving birth!

Helen - do you think the aromatherapy helped during labour?

I do have clary sage, I just need to convince the bottle to drip, but I think I'll wait a week or so before messing with it as I have heard about its potency!

I made a massage oil using clary sage when I was 2 days over due-that night I went into labour! Could be coincidence but I'm not sure! Lol!

I did find that having the lavender helped as I'd used it during my natal hypnotherapy cd listening sessions and found that the smell helped me tune into the hypnotherapy. I also love the smell and it only has good meanings for me so it helped me relax.

Thanks Helen. Will use the clary sage with caution! :)

I like the idea of making a massage oil. I've mainly been using a diffuser so far but have some oil too.

Just a warning, Clary Sage Oil STINKS, it is horrible, definately pair it with something nicer smelling if you can! My whole house smells like old wet teabags now.

LOL! I'll keep that in mind. Clary sage and lavender seem like a popular combination, I think I'll try that first...although I want to make sure that I'm ready for bubs to make an appearance before I start :oD

I used a blend of lavender, camomile and clary sage in oil burners and massage oils. If it's properly blended it smells really nice!! I loooooove mine and my ladies have really enjoyed it too! x
