I have had a letter through the post today for an appointment with a Anaesthetic consultant for an anaesthetic review!!!

Has anyone had one of these b4? if so what happens?? i never had it with Oliver so this is new to me

And talk about short notice its on thursday!!!!

Thanks in advance!!!!

Well what a bloody waste of time that was  ....i was basically told that they r calling every *bigger* pregnant woman in to see if they need extra assistance during pregnancy/labour etc etc....Anaesthetic review my backside. :x

he says i may need a c-section with it being twins(already knew that) and that they would like to put an epi line in when im in the 1st stages of labour as then if i need an emergency c-section they can just put a spinal block in instead of knocking me out

If they had put that on the letter i wouldnt of wasted my time going but on the letter they made it out like it was something inportant...not a bleeding study!!!!!!

On a lighter note ive brought a new car!!! a renault megane scenic and i can get 3 car seats in the back  and i didnt have to pay as much as i thought i would for it!!!!!!! :cheer:

Sorry havent had one of these before, if you are having a section I assume its to go through what will happen then?

Good luck for Thursday

they sent me for one cos my BMI is high. it was an utter waste of time and no tests were done or review or anything.

The guy talked me through the 'Pain relief in labour' leaflet. Heavily encouraged me to have epidural and made out like I'd be risking myself by not having one as it would make preparation for a c-section easier.

As I'm hoping for homebirth, lets just say I wasn't impressed!

I have heard a lot of anaesthetists push you to have epidurals cos it makes their job easier if they do have to give you a c-section!

Sorry I dont know about the review thing though, its prob because you have twins isnt it? Probably just the hosp covering itself so they can say you have had all the info before you are in labour and able to take it in properly, and also give them any details they might need about you - dont they usually ask loads of things before they administer anaesthetic?

well only got a few days to find out

Just a bit strange as didnt have it with Oliver and ive also got a high BMI(i dont know why they just dont come out with im a fattie haha) but was also big when i had him

must be because im having twins and there is a high risk of c-section with them...im in 2minds about having an epidural though i didnt have one with Oliver...but the thought of being pain free sounds good haha

good luck if you go tot he appointment.... and i dont blame u for wanting to be pain free!

I can only imagine it's in case you have a C section with the twins. Its good to see them beforehand and they can find out all about your history and if you get poorly with anaesthetics so that a firm plan is in place for you if it's needed and you get the best care when the time comes. Don't worry it can only be a good thing it means you will be really well looked after :)

I had one with Mhairi as I was at high risk of c-section from day one because of severe asthma.

They just want to check you out with regards to weight, any allergies, any dental work you've had and any drug reactions you may have had in the past.

With me they checked the size of tube they'd need if I needed to be intubated and had a good listen to my lungs.

In the end I had a c-section, and they went over everything AGAIN before it!

It's just so they will have everything incase of an emergency....better to be safe than sorry!

xxx
