I know that I should put this in working and pregnant but noone ever goes in there so I thought I would post it here.

What is the jackanory with applying for jobs when pregnant? Do I tell them, when it is beginning to look rather obvious or just keep quiet and allow them to draw their own conclusions! Any ideas? Realistically what are my chances of getting a job?

I know I won't be entitled to maternity pay but I can get maternity allowance so at least thats something! Personally I think should get maternity pay as I teach and in my opinion I work for the government but I assume everyone could say that!!!

Anyone got any ideas on the matter?

I'm not sure...

When I left Birmingham I left behind banking after what felt like a lifetime.

I intended to do something different and then found out that I was having lo a few weeks after we moved (expected ttc to take a little longer )which was early August and I planned on searching for work here once summer
hols were over.

I had a few job interviews and people loved my cv but then when I told them I was pg they went off me :(

Eventually I had an interview to work in recruitment at the massive BMW mini factory in Oxford and got offered the job :cheer:

My guilt over took me tho as I hadn't told them I was 8 weeks pg and so declined and the boss agreed it was no good to them :(

So for now I'm working 4 days a week in the after school club at my kids school..and an AVON round just to save some pennies as I won't get any maternity pay either and I sure like my independance!

So Missac, what is the thing with maternity allowance? Is there a limit to what your OH can earn?

Sorry to ramble.. didn't help at all did it?

i didn't think I was very employable!!!

Maternity allowance is what you can get if you have worked for 26 weeks in the 62 weeks leading up to the birth I think, I will double check with google. You don't have to have worked for whole weeks either and you send in your pay slips and they give you some money, I think the most is £108 a week, check out working and pregnant for full details.

Maternity Allowance
This benefit is dealt with by Jobcentre Plus.

Please read the following carefully. There are changes to Maternity Allowance (MA) that apply to women with babies due on or after 1 April 2007.

What is it
MA provides you with some money to help you take time off work for the birth of your baby.

Paid to women who are not entitled to Statutory Maternity Pay.

MA is not subject to tax and National Insurance
Can I get it?
Are you:

Employed - employed or recently changed employer and you cannot get Statutory Maternity Pay

Self-employed - registered with HM Revenue & Customs and paying Class 2 National Insurance contributions or hold a Small Earnings Exception certificate

Not Employed but have recently been employed and/or self-employed

If YES to any, claim MA.

How do I qualify?
To get MA you must have:

been employed and/or self-employed for at least 26 weeks in the 66 weeks up to and including the week before your baby is due. This 66 week period is known as the Test Period. Part weeks are counted as full weeks; and

earned on average at least £30 or more a week over any 13 weeks in the Test Period. If you are registered self-employed, you will be treated as having an amount of earnings if you have paid Class 2 contributions or hold a Small Earnings Exemption certificate.

just spoken to my Dad and I am going to work for him for a few months and then we will get our mortgage and won't need to rent and I don't have to go through the stress of an interview!! :cheer: :cheer:

That's great news!

At least you'll be earning too for a while :D

exactomondo! feel like a load has been taken off my mind!!

Enjoy your new job :D

In answer to original question, I was 8 weeks preg at interview and was straight with them. They said they appreciated my honesty and gave me the job.

hi minime I read that in another thread of yours, I think a lot do appreciate the honesty but I am too far gone I think, I would only be working for about two months!!

Theyve asked me to stay as long as I can, I guess around late January as I'm convinced LO will be here mid to late Feb. I work in a hospital so will be fine if my waters go or anything
