Bit of a random one! Has anyone managed to do this and everything been ok? I'm feeling a little bit pressured in to giving up breastfeeding before we go for a night away in a few months time. Lo will be 16 months and to be honest at 12 months now I'm just not ready to give up but wondering if it will be easier on the both of us if I wean her before!? Just kind of wondering if it's at all possible to leave them overnight? X

Hi, HL!

We are a little behind you in terms of age but my wee one sometimes feeds at night. We are going to be away 1 night in a few weeks time. In prep for this, if she wakes up, my oh settles her - so we know that she can do it and be ok. I haven't taken this to indicate that she is ready for night weaning and frankly, feeding her to sleep is easy, lazy and the quickest option for us, but it makes me feel more confident that someone can settle her without boobies.

Good luck!

i would leave my dd with my parents overnight when she was 12 months plus, she would breastfeed a few times a day but when she was with my parents she would be happy to do without until i picked her up. She would just have juice and solids instead your lo should be ok to do that at 16 months but obviously children are all different and it depends if they want a feed overnight, my daughter never fed during the night from a young age unless she was sick so it was easy , if they want a feed for comfort i guess it would be harder to do x

Thanks for replying ladies!!! I do sometimes go in and settle her with just a cuddle which she initially fighted and dived for boobs but she was feeding so often I wanted to try and cut down some feeds. Now she's teething badly so I do give in sometimes. I think I'll use your idea Belfast and get husband to go in and settle her more often closer to the date that way I won't feel pressurised into weaning before! Cam did you get uncomfortable at all not feeding? I'm guessing I'll be away from her for about 30ish hours! So wondering if I might have a bit.of a problem also? She can go all day without feeding and I don't ever get the let down anymore so hoping it won't cause me any problems either xxx

No i never felt uncomfy at that stage even when i eventually stopped at 18mths i didnt have awful engorgement my body must of got used to feeding infrequently you should be ok x

Brilliant thanks guys! I'm so useless at leaving my kids I'm quite anxious and if it wasn't a birthday present from hubby I prob wouldn't be going lol!! Xxx

Belfast let me know how it goes xxx
