hi,

i am ttc baby number 2 . Me and my partner are currently at uni so we get all of our childcare covered. When baby no 2 comes I want to get a nanny to help out and so they don't have to go to nursery and have to leave the house at 7.30 with us. it also means we can study at home with the kids there. Does anyone have any advice on rates of pay etc and what sort of hours they work. We already have a house big enough for them to have their own room but beyond that I have no clue.

thanks

i don't know about childcare vouchers but working tax credit childcare allowance does and so does student childcare allowance. they changed it as i think it can be cheaper having one nanny instead of two plus children in nursery!

you might be better off posting in the benefits section

 I didn't know you could claim all of your childcare if you claimed wtc- i was told they'd only pay more 75% max :(

i don't use wtc to pay for it - i get the equivalent from the student finance company- they pay 85%.

Not hired one but have been one for about 15 years give or take.

Truthfully it can work out expensive. Outside of certain areas nationally rates tend to be cheaper but its still not cheap. Its not like you can pay a qualified nanny minimum wage. Plus you have to factor in the tax side of things. You'll be employing them so will have to pay the stamp etc. That's a fair chunk. Plus cover holiday pay and car etc (if not providing one). A nanny working regular hours etc cannot be self employed so it will all have to be covered by you. Then you need to consider sickness also. If she is off sick you don't have cover etc.

If you plan to have a live in nanny it tends to be less pay wise obviously. Live out will cost you more.

Drop me a PM and I can tell you more if you are interested.
