Hey!

I was talking to some friends and it's just occurred to us that whoever has a baby this year from Scotland will be entitled to one of Nicola Sturgeons promised baby boxes! The contents look fab!

Also! Seeing as we are all from Glasgow it looks as though we will all be getting a baby box (thank you Nicola Sturgeon)!

The box - doubles as a makeshift cot
Mattress
Fitted cot sheets
Satin-edged cellular blanket
Mattress protector
Pramsuit with hood
All-in-one day suit
Romper and bodysuit set
Scratch mittens
Short-sleeved bodysuit
Long-sleeved bodysuit
Long-sleeved bodysuit with integral scratch mittens
Long-sleeved wraparound bodysuit
Footed leggings
Fleece jacket with hood
Jersey trousers
Baby wrap
Hooded bath towel
Real nappy and liners
Digital ear thermometer and replacement hygiene cover
Natural bath sponge
Bath and room baby thermometer and battery
Dribbler bib
Organic cotton muslin squares
Comforter/soother toy
PlayTalkRead playmat
PlayTalkRead travel changing mat
Baby book
Nursing pads

Has anyone else heard about them or being advised about when you might receive yours? Xx

I think is this is only for first time mother. Unless it's changed for the last article I read about it x

Oh I thought it was for all babies born in Scotland! Must check it out x

I can't seem to find anything that says its for first time parents only but maybe I'm not looking properly!

I have heard about the boxes but not the ins and outs of them but last I heard they are costing them so much money I thought knowing my luck the time I am due baby they would stop them anyway x

I believe it's for every new baby born - the argument being that every baby deserves the same start. I've seen plenty of people say it should be means tested but the argument against that is that just because people have money doesn't mean they spend it on their baby. So from that I'm assuming it's every baby otherwise the argument doesn't work. I'm in east Ayrshire so hoping I'll get one x

Its all babies born. As Rose said, its the all babies have the same start in life. I think its from this summer. Im excited, I think its fab! X

I believe it to be every baby once it officially roles out. Our wee one is 5m so we missed out. I think it's a great idea. Anything to support healthy babies and equality is something to be excited about.

Although I did wonder about sizing of things. Obviously not all babies are born a certain size. But I'm sure first size would fit most atleast till they get something to fit.

I have a few expectant friends so look forward to checking it out. I do think it'll take a while to get used to peering over the bed into a box and often wonder if people will use the box as intended - because it does lower the sids risks but there will be those who still use a crib with bumper etc despite warnings so I just hope people fully grasp the significance and use them properly and not just the items.

Sizing is a very good point!! They do kind of look like the cardboard file boxes in offices.

I intend to use it as intended as I had considered a Moses basket again as I got rid of my one from my firstborn literally a week before I found out I was expecting again! SIDS scares me quite a bit, as I'm sure it does most mums, so to have something which is so simple yet been proven effective, I am willing to give it a go. Xx

We have a travel cot atm with thicker mattress because a cot won't fit in with us and he's not quite ready to be in the room with his brother in his room. But he is 70cm and just fits in his moses now although we don't use it (it was used as a nap bed in the livingroom) so if the box is the size of a bassinet then should get some good use. Hopefully.

I would have had to reassess my living lol we have cats which won't go near his cot but I can't be sure of that if he was in a box on the floor and they would scratch alllll night  however it be good if everyone did use them.

Alot of the people I know would probably just use the items and not use the box. Sids is a scary topic but despite the amount of warnings I still see parents put their babies to sleep in hats thick layers loose bedding bumpers... so some just ignore. I hope it has a positive response though the figures speak for themself really. The country that introduced them has the lowest birth immortality rate.

There was a wee video on YouTube the other day with the winning design and unboxing the contents. It's speeded up so can't see everything but I'm quite excited, I think it's a lovely idea that all babies are entitled to it no matter what circumstances, I would keep the box as a memory box afterwards as well, looks about the same size as my wedding dress box so hopefully it fits in beside that and my wedding memories box on top of the wardrobe.

I'll be having my baby in Inverness so knowing my luck it won't be rolled out in that area until after I have baby. I think it's a fab idea, I don't think it should bemoans tested at all, it's nice to offer it and I'm sure those that don't need or want one will happily decline and allow someone else to have it instead.
