Oh NO!!

OH needs our ORIGINAL marriage certificate for his French visa so he can go and watch the rugby, and we can't find it!!

I have found 2, yes 2 "certified copies" but not the original and apparently these are no good.

Has anyone ever managed to get an original? or is everything you get from now on called a copy?

HELP!!

I'm not sure about marriage certificates but my SIL got a new child berth certificate as she lost the original and it wasnt maked as copy.

Good luck!

A certified copy is the original sort of. The only original goes to your county registrar, so even the version when you get married is a copy.
What they mean by no copies is no photocopies.

We werent allowed copies of our borth certificates for our Hungarian Residency permits but Richards is a certified copy and that was accepted. They normally just mean photocopy's arent acceptable.

GRRRR

Well I rang the registry office, and yes, the original is their big book, we were only ever given the "certified copy"

It was a visa agency that told me the certified copies weren't good enough, even though they were green and had ink on, not photocopies.
I rang them again and told them what the registry office said and she checked what other people are sending in and it's all "certified copies"

GRRR I wish they'd got their facts right first time, I told them we've been turning our house upside down for days looking for something that doesn't exist!!!!

I've suggested they clarify what they tell people cos even when I first called this morning they said certified wasn't good enough. OH has been worried sick he won't be able to go to the world cup after getting so excited about it. I lay awake half of last night wracking my brains wondering where the hell it's got to.

We needed a new marriage cert so had to pay £7.50 I think for Bucks County Council to do a new one - needed it for the mortgage I think. I presume as it's not the original that it's a copy but I think is as good as...
