Yeah my MIL was a midwife and she's always telling me not to lie flat on back. I have one of those big support cushions so prop myself up on that and lie on my back so I'm not flat as I like to sleep on my back haha. They also say lie on your left side rather than your right but I do the opposite! X
:O this is silly. I barely sleep as it is let alone having to switch from the one position i can get comfortable in. My right side is staying! I do begin to feel a bit funny if i lie on my back for too long, but never heard you aren't meant to.
It is to do with the weight of baby and uterus reducing your blood flow and affecting your breathing I think. If I am on the sofa semi laying on my back and I fall to low I start to feel funny and get palpatations.
I heard this too but I always wake up on my back! I had my jab the other day so I couldn't lie on left side, not supposed to lie on back and front is becoming impossible. Lying on my right side sets off my sciatica.....yeah I got a good nights sleep!
My babys heart rate would go down when I was lying on my back. I got sent to hospital one point as it took a while to recover, HOWEVER, I was almost 2 weeks overdue so this could be a contributing factor. Next time though I will make an effort to not lie on my back. I would put a pillow behind my back when I slept on my side because I would always wake up on my back but this way I wasnt completly lying flat. Helped me feel more confortable as well. I wouldnt stress about waking up on your back, just dont actively lie on your back. That make any sense lol.
I really wanna lie on my back! Argh! 2 midwives have told me not to now & one of the obstretricians while I was in hosp, they say it's bad for the baby because of decreased bloodflow & can also make u dizzy when u get up...I have noticed my right hip goes numb if I lie on my back too long now all these rules do my head in! Still, if it means the babys healthy....x
think cause ur not lying flat out ur raised at the back a bit. 5 Years ago when i had my son i wasnt told not to lie on my back and hes fine so i dunno i try not to though
It's because we have a big artery called the inferior vena cava, that is about size of hose pipe and runs from heart downwards slightly on the right side of our body. If baby is pressing on it it can cause circulation problems.
At the scan they raise ur head though dont they? Oh i dunno lol confuzzled but I wouldve thought they just meant for a long time, im seeing my midwife fri so ill ask her to explain better lol x
