Anyone else had / got little ones who are suffering with teething?

Poor Bee is really suffering. High temperature (went Dr yesterday to rule out anything untoward), off her food, incredibly grumpy and clingy, lots of gum sucking / hands in mouth and she is very fitful at night.

James just used to wake up with teeth so this is new to me.

I have Nelsons teething powder + Bonjela + teething rings (cold ones and normal ones)

Anything else that could help? Trying not to resort to Calpol - although I have given her a few doses when she has been in discomfort overnight and had a temp.

This is just her first teeth as well... dreading the rest!!

Hi Carnat, our lil miss has been teething on and off for past three wks, luckily its only affecting her feeding and playtime, she still sleeps at night fine altho takes her longer during naps to get to sleep...I have three tools in my arsenal - good old knuckle for the mummy comfort aspect works well, wet chilled flannel on my knuckle helps numb the area naturally and she likes to suck on it and finally one of those mouth guard looking things looks like a dummy but it has a half moon piece they chew on, they come in a set of two for first and next teeth as first one softer in middle and harder outside, the other one is vice versa...I find this works a treat altho when she tries to help me put it in she can inadvertently choke if she pushes it in too far but not often, she'll chomp away whilst playing...if she cries with it in then I put bonjela on it and that starts to soothe 20mins later...Ive also done calpol one night as she had a bad cold and was teething badly but she hasnt ever had a temperature with it...it is hard though as she is clingier, wants to play with me not her play gym (which is fine but tiring lol) and the random crying outbursts are heart breaking....dont know what else to suggest but thats what works for our lil miss...tried all the teething toys out there and she hated every one of them but the teething dummy thing works wonderfully...she is nearly five months and both our families had teeth by six months so hopefully not long to wait...this is the first time in the past three weeks she's had it bad for longer than a day so maybe it will start to show itself soon fx...

Not got any experience yet but my friend swears by an amber anklet - she said they take about a week to have an effect. You can get them quite cheap on eBay xx

I think it's just a case of riding it out unfortunately. You've gone down the same route I have to help with the pain (nelsons, bonjela, teething rings). My daughter has really taken to her Sophie giraffe and I've bought a cheeky chopper too. I gave in to Calpol two days ago as my daughter just couldn't settle for naps and was gnawing on everything she could get her hands on. The next day her tooth arrived. I can't believe we have our first tooth already, at only 4 months and 1 week old. Geez.

hi rooster well our lil miss has been on and off teething for past three wks but has been particularly bad the past three days...could it be the tooth arriving? Yikes scary....

I really feel for you because Zac is horrendous with teething.

We use nurofen then two hours later calpol if it's really bad. Anbesol liquid, from behind the counter at Boots normally provides instant relief, although i'm sure it does sting a bit for them but it's something else to try.

Ashton and parsons all the way - best teething powder by a mile - also ibuprofen is better for teething pain too and you can buy it in suspension form - supermarket own is much cheaper than nurofen or calprofen and is exactly the same x

Thanks guys!!

Bee has an amber anklet (as does James - not sure if they work? Def not doing much for Bee - but I loves them!!) we also have a Sophie and I already have baby Nurofen in as well.

Will look for the Ashtons and Parsons. Like the chilled flannel tip too.

So much useful advice as always. Thanks ladies.

No more advice but feel for you. My baby has 2 bottom teeth and what looks like 4 all coming at once on the top. He is in agony with it. Crying and grumpy. Really frustrated too. Add to that the not sleeping at night and not being able to use any powders = tired mummy xxx

I can second Ashton and parsons powders and the Anbesol Liquid, it numbs the pain almost instantly.
I'm sceptical about the amber bracelets-didn't work for us.
Teething is just awful for them and parents :( x

Anbesol was the best gel I found.

I would probably give her something like calpol or nurofen at night and use the topical gels/powders in the day.

My eldests first two teeth were two weeks of sheer hell. Then he was better with each set. The one positive with his teeth were they came in all four at a time towards the end so has had all his teeth from quite a young age.

do people find the ambesol better than bonjela? may pick some up...

I wouldn't have even known Amelie was teething at all.

Bethany on the other hand was violently, projectile sick each time she got a new youth.

So far with Gabriella, she's dribbly and tries to eat me but that's it so far. I can see one in the gum but it's not cutting yet.

Think I'll get an amber thing.

I used necklaces with Bethany...is the new thing an anklet?

x

I use the amber anklet as I am worried Bee would strangle herself with the necklace (she likes to wrap herself up in blankets etc..)

Going to nip to Boots and get the other gel people have recommended.

Thanks

Some people also swear by teething granules...worth a try!

Oscar really struggled with teeth, he was grumpy for weeks and weeks with it. Anbesol does worth well and if Bee is old enough, something like melon/cucumber that's been in the fridge is nice for them to suck/rub their gums on xx

What's the science behind the amber anklets/necklaces?

Ashton and parsons and anbesol liquid all the way here worked miracles for us x

tried anbesol earlier and didnt seem any more/less efficient than bonjela but havent tried the ashton parsons, tbh Im scared about the powder choking her...how easy is it to apply without dropping powder down her throat...??

I've been putting fruit in the freezer Nat for Caleb to chew on which seems to provide him some relief - strawberries and bananas were recommended to me so that's what I've been using!

I also third Ashton's and parsons, I used nelsons after finishing my box and they just don't work as well for some reason!

I'm off to get some of this gel everyone's talking about as well lol!
