HI All, Ive always fed our lil miss on my lap and she ALWAYS does no 2 during a feed which is fine, nappy change carry on but have been recently putting her in the highchair to get her used to it as I gradually introduce solids...thing is when she 'goes' it goes everywhere! I always end up with poo on her clothing and 2/3 times have managed to clean it off but this is now a daily occurence...any suggestions? Does anyone else feed their LO in highchair? Wanted her to have a positive association with it as I introduce solids and means I can now introduce chew chew train/aeroplane games into feeding plus she can practise her neck control and it gives her sit up practise....wish I could prevent the explosions tho....

I used to feed my eldest in his bouncer cos he detested being laid flat when feeding. I can't say I remember any poo issues. If it was going to leak it would do it regardless of where LO was sitting/feeding.

Based purely on what my two have been like, I'd say 19 weeks in a high chair is quite early. I used the bouncer until six months with our eldest.

I have to agree with littlemonkey, 19 weeks is very early for a high chair. I wouldn't worry about positive association with a chair now, weaning will do that anyway. She can have sit up practice on the floor and it's probably better for her here - her legs will be out in front and will help her with her balance.

Re feeding games, I would advise against them - from what I have read they can have a detrimental effect when weaning as the baby can require constant stimulation during mealtimes. Certainly use them as necessary but perhaps not with every meal.

Thanks guys for your comments, she does get plenty of situp practice during activities etc so I know she's developing her muscles well...I guess its a matter of opinion but she seems to enjoy it and plus when offering her solids she's in it anyway so may as well do both...Anyway my initial question was with regards to going for a no 2 whilst feeding...even if only use highchair for weaning still going to have same issue,

Have you tried a different brand of nappy with a different fit or size? Higher at the back or tighter round the legs maybe? X

thanks pin badge, Ive been using tesco brand during the day and pampers 3+ baby dry at night (they are fantastic 12-15hrs lol) but you're right maybe try another brand during the day, have some others in cupboard to try out so maybe give it a go...

We've been using pampers and had a few accidents but mostly when we needed to go up a size. Tried tesco nappies and he leaked in three in a row so that was it for me-back to pampers. I use the active fit or newborn size 3 during the day (I prefer the newborn ones) and the premium protection at night. I didn't realise there was a difference but there must be as I don't particularly like them. All the packs say 12hr protection too.

We used to use aldi nappies in the day, they were nice and high at the back but they don't really suit her chunky legs now! Might be worth a try too.X

Thanks guys, we do like the pampers and the active fit worked well but she doesnt always 'go' when she's in the highchair so havent properly tested the theory...main thing is our homemade washing detergent gets rid of poo stains - woohoo - just a bit annoying lol..

I just wonder if she tends to poo during a feed and it goes all over why would you wanting to risk getting the high chair dirty too having to faff about and washing the cover too on top of her clothes? My son always leans back a little during his bottle so unless you have an adjustable one, I wouldn't think drinking a bottle sitting straight up would be comfy... Just some thoughts..

JD thanks for your thoughts, it is recliniable with three settings and she seems to feed well in it but think its cos she isnt lying straight which she does if she's on my lap with her shoulders and neck at an angle...I always felt highchair meant the milk would settle better than when lying straight on my lap...btw the highchair doesnt get it just her clothes lol....

I would try changing her milk = explosive poo can mean they are intolerant of the milk. A leaking nappy is a normal occurrence occasionally but should not every time! speak to health visitor or gp about lactose free etc.
