What can I do to help my babies head to engage?

I am due to have a membrane sweep on Thursday but the midwife won't do it if the head is not engaged..

I have been bouncing on my birthing ball but thats all I can think of...

Any other suggestions would be great!

Thanks x

Hi hun

The followng are optimal fetal positions which should be adopted from 34 weeks onwards which should encourage baby to lie with it's back to your left side/front, which should encourage baby to engage: -

regularly use upright and forward leaning postures which allows more available space in the pelvis
walking
sitting with knees apart - e.g. on dining room chair facing the back of the chair
sleeping on side - preferably left, with pillow between legs and top knee resting on bed
keep knees lower than hips.
Don't sit with legs crossed

Hope that helps and that baby shuffles down in time for the sweep

thanx LB i'm gonna follow them too... and i'm gonna get a birthing ball

by the way dont pay loads for them from a proper baby shop, i got mine from asdain the fitness section, only bout £4

Thanks for the link Redshoes...

I found this part interesting...

• If you are very sporty and have well-toned abdominal muscles this may mean that your tummy is held in tighter, which changes the angle of the baby's body and presenting part to the pelvic brim. In this position it is harder for your baby to engage in the pelvis. To encourage your baby's head to engage you need to relax your tummy muscles and "dangle your belly" out at the front.

I was just saying to OH that I feel as though I naturally hold my lower stomach muscles in...It feels weird when I relax them. Maybe this has something to do with it.

I must remind myself to let it all hang out!!

Also... thanks to everyone else for the rest of the suggestions.. i will give them a go this week. x

Hav eyou tried going up the stairs on your hands and knees and the birthing ball is a good one 2
