LO is five months and has never had a bottle, so we are going to skip that all together. I am preparing us for introducing solids (waiting until six months), but I have no idea what type of cup/ beaker to give her then. I believe some beakers aren't too good for their teeth?

Any recommendations?

Id like to know a good one to because i have a few and he just doesnt seem to get on with any of them. I may try and free flow one instead of a non spill as i was using the tommee tipee 6 months plus beaker yesterday and he was trying to get some out but couldnt so i tried to drink out of it and it was really hard even for me!!

I just got a new Tommee tippee one from tescos, its called a tip it up cup or something.

So far it seems to be a winner, you still have to kind of bite the end to get the water out, but only really lightly, the end is made of soft silicone. In our tesco home plus, they were 2 for £4.

The first cup is also quite good, and dead cheap. Its completely free flowing, the spout is hard.

I think these are the best ones we have (and we have quite a few  )

We have the TT free flow first cup, which is good if you are giving drinks to them, but hopeless when they give it themselves as it free flows everywhere!

Ella's faves are these

she has been drinking from them since she was about 4 months and gets on really well with them, you have to kind of chew the spout to get the water out but she is fine with that.

I think there is some element of trial and error for your child though, they all seem to get on with different cups.

We have tried several over the past week since we started weaning and we have ended up with the Avent Magic Cup. It's the best one yet lol

We use the Amadeus Cow Cup with the non-spill valve removed for milk, and the avent magic cup for water. I like the Nuby cups too.

Thank you for your replies

Ah, wonders of being a first time mum - it seems that we are about to embark on another trial and error journey.

I think we'll try the TT non-spill first, but I do love the Amadeus Cow cup in pink too!!! As LO will be having as much boobie as she wants there is no rush for her to start drinking water, but might as well start trying that as well. Unless anyone thinks that it is better to focus on eating solids first before learning to drink?

I have started to look forward to introducing solids to LO - a month or so ago I was SO not ready (never mind LO being ready, but mum would have DEFINITELY not have been as I love BF:ing so much and wasn't happy to have a competitor for my boobies :rotfl: ).

I like these ones too. She couldn't seem to get the idea that she had to suck really hard on the other non-spill ones with valve to get something to come out. Ended up getting frustrated and giving up! She also has a little plastic tumbler she enjoys drinking out of (with a bit of help) and is currently obsessed with all types of glass.

I've tried loads of different ones..i have about 5 different tommy tippee ones and nearlay all the Avent ones..and although i like them some of them leak and spill or he finds them hard to drink from (like the new tommy tippee with the straw) the best one i have ever had is by mam..it has never leaked and he found it easy to drink from, its fantastic :) i'll try and find it now and post a link :)
right its the second one down with the 3 different colours..its brilliant!
MAM cups

It says on there that its from 8 months plus...the one i got was from 6 months but anyway even if you have a diff one for now i would really reccommend that one in a few months!!

I bought one of those tip it up cups yesterday and so far it is brilliant, I have had to top it up twice today and Ella has actually drunk all the water in it rather than just pouring it everywhere! I think it is because she is a bottle baby and it is similar to a bottle.

I hope my LO will be a bit more willing with a cup as she didn't like a bottle of EBM (not that I persevered)...

Well done Ella

its recomended that u use a hard teat cup for water as it helps their teeth develop n its better for their speech. abi did had a soft one but she didnt like it now she has asdas own hard teat cup with 2 handles and she can drink out of it holdin it herself n the hard teat is much better for her xx
