For some reason im terrified about tomorow :( Im usually scared of needles but not like this. Iv hardly slept the last 2 days and when ever i think about it (which is all the time :x ) i get really cold and sweaty  Im not scared of the pain its just the way i feel waiting then having it done then after.

Any tips on what i could do to help? I just cant get it out of my head

I'm scared of needles too! Had a bad experience once...
I just inform the nurse about my fear and keep my eyes shut!

I always look away but im getting really scared of even sitting in the waiting room. Loads of people are going for flu jabs and just watching them go in and out of the room made me feel faint

I'm not but my dad is, extremely... So much so that he has fillings and teeth extracted without anesthetic (mind you he doesn't go to the dentist unless he absolutely has too and is in agonizing pain for a few weeks).

He has serious asthma and high blood pressure now.. and has to have the flu jab every year, but the only way my mum can get him to do it is by arranging an appointment for him with the doctor where the both of them plan to spring the jab on him... he thinks he is just going to get more inhalers and the doc sorta leaps on him and jabs him. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

He's been like that all his life.. and he's 63 now. Just close your eyes.... and hope for the best... don't plan your jabs either... get your docs to spring it on you... lol

 ouch, i dont know wether thatd make me feel better or worse lol.I feel like a right boob, i dont even know what it is im scared of :? It just makes me feel really ill when i think about going or when im waiting to go in.

Sounds like a bonafied needle phobia to me  ... I have one of cockroaches... they make me physically sick and hysterical if I see one. :(

i am the same jenna. its not the feeling of the needle itself. its just a mind over matter thing. that is the one thing im not looking forward too if i were to fall pregnant again.............. the damn blood tests. eeeekkkkk i go faint every time.... or i throw up in front of the nurse / midwife

i'm petrified of needles, i feel sick and sweaty just writing the word!
when i took hayden for his jabs i was the one almost in tears!

when i was pregnant i had to have extra bloodtests weekly to make
sure my blood wasnt too thick as women in my family have lost babies
from leiden (sp?)
anyway point being i just learnt to go to a happy place, turn my head the other way and think about something i'm looking forward to..still got scared before hand but it was always over before i knew it and never as bad as i imagined it to be. funny thing is after all those tests i'm no where near as bad as i was before, so i think being strong and facing your fears does help!

I used to be scared, more so of blood tests than plain injections but since being pregnant I got used to being a pin cushion lol. I had a bloodtest when I was about 11 which was done really badly and hurt me and made me scared of anymore but the nurses and midwives are so good at doing them, I even said to one 'let me know when you've finished' and she said 'I have' :rotfl:

I think the fear is a lot worse than needle itself

I agree with natalie - with me my fear of the needle is worse than the actual needle!

For some reason I am now better with blood tests than I am with injections - but my MW knows and we just talk the whole way through while I'm not looking and we have an agreement that she won't tell me when she's about to do it - that really helps me as I tend to go really tense if I know it's about to go in and that makes it harder for them.

I can only give you huge
You'll be fine - you're dead strong. Believe in yourself and you can do anything. Even if it's something you see as really silly like having injections/blood tests

I know, thats whats so daft. Its not a big deal and it doesnt 'hurt' Its just a slightly annoying more than anything!

i had to have bloodtests done the week before my op the other mth and i bloody hate em!!!

i told the woman i had to sit there for 5mins after she had taken blood cos i get reeeeeeeeeeeeeaaalllyy lightheaded afterwards but she ignored me and shooed me out - all i remember is seein Mike and Jam in the waiting room then it went black!!

i had fainted, hit my head on a chair and whacked my nose so i woke up coughin on blood with Jamie cryin and a nurse givin me oxygen then when they put me on a trolley i started hyperventilatin in the main reception of the hospital so i had all these strangers starin at me then was linked upto a drip in a&e for 3hours!!!!

am dreadin the routine tests etc when i have another baby, i just cant deal with them takin blood!!!

Thats horrible. I hope i dont have a horrible person doing it. I had a lovely women last time i had a blood test shes was great and explained everything to me and let me sit for a while until i felt comfortable to leave. Im not 100% sure how many jabs im having tomorow but i have a blood test monday so i hope nothing puts me off going to that!

I keep picking at scabs and thinking 'itll hurt about that much' ... Im going mad i swear. Just read up on MMR and im not even sure i should be having it, says upto 5 years or something :? anyways i still have the other 2! :rotfl:

Aww hun  I can totally sympathise with you. Im a complete lightweight when it comes to needles - it even says it on my Mat Notes in huge Letters NEEDLE PHOBIC :rotfl:

I had blood test on Monday after they lost the results of my first lot  and I was fine as Ive mastered it...heres what I do

I take someone along with me - this is a must for moral support afterwards or to catch me if I pass out! I take a drink with me, preferbly water, nice and cold and keep drinking it right up to before I go in so my mouth doesnt dry out - panic seems to do this to me. Also I always take Lucozade Sweets and have one of those to munch as soon as its done. When I go in I tell them straight away Im a needlephobe and then they know what they're dealing with :D Keep your arm REALLY relaxed and floppy. Whilst needle is in, whoever is jabbing you will talk to you so I just concentrate really hard on what they're saying and try my best to have a normal conversation. Then when its done Il munch my sweet and Im happy as anything :D

things you have to do to.... :rotfl: :rotfl:

Well it works for me sweet and Im the worst at needles. Its just having something to concentrate on other than Oh S**t Im gonna pass out/be sick or just lose it completely!!

Good luck

Bizaarely I'm not conciously frightened of needles but a few years ago I had a barbed needle that left a hole in my arm and ever since then I've fainted on each and every needle! So on some level I must be terrified.

After the first bloods were done in pregnancy and I fainted I got some EMLA cream from my midwife. You put it on half an hour before and it numbs your arm completely, it's fab! I think it's meant for kids and some medical professionals can be a bit sniffy about giving it out but it might be worth asking

Try to focus on the positives to the test your having done, why you're having it done, see yourself calmly sitting there and not feeling a thing  I do hope it goes well for you, very best wishes
I got over my fear with a dramatic act, I used to have a horrific needle phobia, but after over 20yrs of worrying about it, I had a 'pee into the wind' moment and went and donated blood, and did a second time, then a third etc it was my way of getting over it, made all the pregnancy ones very easy to deal with.
Pain is very much effected by our expectation of it, believe it won't hurt, believe it will be a tiny, quick prick and it will, though I know that's easier read than done  I remember before having my tattoo done, sitting there pricking myself with a needle, saying, omg it'll be hundred times worse than that, when actually it wasn't worse, tattoos to me feel like a very intense heat, sorry I've gone off topic :D

Thanks
I didnt sleep a wink last night and feel sick but more positive than i thought id be.
