Hi,

I'm new to this forum and was wondering if anyone can offer me any advice. I am 40 and my partner and I have now decided to TTC. It's a weird feeling as neither of us has been in this position before.

I asked the doctor earlier in the year about it and he just said come off the pill and take Folic Acid. Well because of partner's job uncertainties we held off for a few months but we are now ready.

I do know that my age is against us and that I do suffer from mild Endometriosis but when I had a pelvic scan last year the nurse said that my "essential bits" all looked in good working order.

I am off for a smear test on Thursday so will ask the nurse for any advice but I was just wondering if anyone on here could offer any advice as I'm feeling a little worried.

Thanks.

Hi welcome to PF. I too am older and TTC. Will be 40 in September. DH is just 30 lol

We have been ttc from last March. Got BFP in Dec, only to suffer MC in January. Waited for cycle to return to normal before ttc again. At least I know that we can get pregnant. Just have to pray that next time its successful.

I am taking folic acid and in post last week was recommended Ante Natal Forte. Its a multi vitamin which apparently is good for "older" eggs. So whether successful or not this month will be starting to take it. Need to do everything in power to help pregnancy be successful.

Good luck in TTC and hope its good for you. cc

Thanks for your reply Butterflykises and I am sorry to hear about your MC.

I've just bought Wellman Conceive for OH and me Pregnacare Conceive so we shall see how those go. I've downloaded a little app to help me work out my cycle too.

I've been told that these days women are getting pregnant into their 40's but it's always nice to hear from you directly.

I think this is the most terrifying decision we've ever made but in a good way IYSWIM.

Hi Louise and PF fourm
I'm 38 and OH is 45 in oct we both have kids previous marriages but we wanted a baby together, we've been TTC since oct last year and no luck so far.
I came off the pill in aug last year and i've been having 35-40 day cycles since then, so dont really know when AF is due as it varies from month to month.
I aslo have a few medical probs such as overactive thyroid, caluicm defenicy and high blood pressure which i'm medication for all of them.
Good luck with TTC:dust:

Have you tried using OPKs yet. They will give you very good indication of when you are ovulating. Cheapie ones off ebay or cb digi ones. Personally I like the cb digi as it's easier to go by smiley face than trying to judge if lines are getting darker. I got good deal on digi which is main reason I bought them in the first place.
xx

Hi butterflykisses
The strange thing is i know when i ov each month, but that doesnt explain why AF varies each month, its quite annoying really as i dont know when to do a pg test.
Thanks i will prob try them

Hiya LouAS :)

I'd suggest you get your FSH blood work done as it will indicate the quality of your eggs and if you are already seeing an age related decline which might make you want to take more drastic action to ensure you don't miss the boat.

You don't want to leave anything to chance at your age (without trying to make you sound like an OAP) ;)

Hi LouiseB,

Thanks for that tip I shall ask the nurse tomorrow evening about it. They're not very forthcoming with help but I shall persevere with them.

BTW you didn't make me feel like an OAP but I do realise that time isn't on our side

Hi, LouiseAS. I'm 41 and hubby and I have been trying for about year and a half. I'm starting to panic now - I've never been pregnant before and hubby hasn't had kids either. I'm in the final straight of testing. I've had bloods, smear and internal ultrasound done and everything's ok so far. Next week I've got my HSG and this will probably be it. If my tubes, etc, look ok, it'll just be a case of us keeping on trying. I'm too old for IVF on the NHS and we can't afford to have it privately. The clock is definitely against us! I'm hoping the HSG will clear the old tubes out if nothing else is wrong. As Louise said it's best to see the doc ASAP so you don't waste time. The sooner you get your bloods done and get everything checked out, the sooner you can relax and concentrate on making a baby. There's loads of women having kids in their early 40s so there's hope for us yet! xx
