Antibiotics and bfeeding

Great! I now have a UTI so have been given amoxcillan. Has anyone takin this before while breastfeeding? They told me it should have little effect on baby but they may get thrush etc. I'm so worried I'm going to harm Ralph. I rather be in pain them see him in pain. X

Aww hun, you def have to look after yourself, esp if BFing so if you have UTI it won't go away unless you take antibiotics.

I didn't have to take anything while feeding Oz, but if you're really worried give BFing support a call and ask their advice. They might know more about that antibiotic and the effect it could have on baby.

I'm sure there are some ladies on here who will be able to be more helfpul than me though.

It's safe to use it while breast feeding and yes baby can get thrush but it can be cleared very easy and it can happen with any AB you get not only this one.

Untreated UTIs can turn in full kidney infection that's sh very dangerous.

I would go ahead and take it really. I'd you see white spots on baby's mouth or red sore bum that Dosent clear just call your GP. It can give you sth that will clear it in a couple of days. Thrush is usually painless or babies unless left untreated for long time

I'm in the wrong area of the forum here, but I was listening so some expery speaker who said mum taking anti biotics while breast feeding can causw reflux in babies under 12 weeks. Don't know how true it is. Just thought id mention x
But obvs you need the anti biotocs before it gets worse! So I guess its catch 22

i had antibiotics when i left hospital, 2 types and they didnt cause any problems, we got thrush but i had it during pg so i was half expecting her to catch it anyway. cream and fluconazole cleared it up eventually.
