Does anyone have experience of an anterior placenta? When did you start feeling proper movements, and how did you monitor them?

I'm nearly 18 weeks, I felt my daughter from 15 weeks in my first pregnancy. This time I've felt a couple of small movements that I thought was baby, but nothing since.

Just a little concerned about how I'll know if baby is ok or not if I can't feel anything!

Hey Mayflower :)

It's nothing to worry about, it's very common and baby will be very happy and cosy in there just like normal.
I also have an anterior placenta. I felt my little boy (1st pregnancy) from about 18 weeks. But with this pregnancy it was more like 20 or 21 weeks. I was a little worried as everyone was like 'ahh your half way now' and I hadn't felt them.
But sure enough everyday I've felt little one move and kick, stronger everyday.
To be honest once they get big enough it won't feel any different.
The only concern is when the placenta is low down and becomes an obstruction I think..but that's the same whichever place it is.
Honestly don't worry. Completely normal and you'll your baby very soon!
Congratulations Xx

I've got an anterior high placenta and I started feeling little bops really low in the pelvis at 18 weeks, although I wasn't sure it was baby for a while. By just over 20 weeks I was feeling random kicks that I couldn't mistake for anything else and by 21 weeks I could feel them from the outside. They were sporadic and far between, but there. It took the bf a while longer to feel them as the timing was difficult - the baby would do one big kick and then not again for a while. No one apart from us has felt the baby kick yet as getting the timing right is difficult. Mostly the baby is only felt if I lie / sit down for a while.

I was so worried I wouldn't feel them, but I'm now coming up to 27 weeks and feel him all the time. I've only just started feeling him when I'm standing though and even then I can't from the outside. This is my first pregnancy so I don't know the difference in feeling compared to a pregnancy without an anterior high placenta, but you'll definitely feel the baby and they'll definitely get stronger.

I also have an anterior placenta, which is on my front right side.. it's a pain!.. I have come to learn not to expect 'regular' movements.. my LO has a very odd pattern, if any pattern at all and my midwife has said it's totally normal - it just all depends on his position, now he is engaged and has stayed in the same position with his back against the placenta I can feel when his fidgeting but it has been very hit and miss up until now.. I have never bothered to 'count kicks' as if your LO is anything like mine you'll be a nervous wreck thinking something is always wrong! I would only be concerned if I go a whole day without feeling him, which thankfully hasn't happened yet!

I never felt proper kicks until about 20 weeks.. I only had little flutters prior to that. Once LO is bigger and feels up more space you'll feel a lot more even with an anterior placenta but just don't cling on to having to have a set routine or so many kicks per hour etc because you'll worry yourself silly xxx

Also anterior. Didn't feel anything til 23 weeks ish, and even then it was quite little movements. But it got stronger and stronger and now I've been able to video him kicking :)

Movements are still much stronger at the sides and lower down, but I can feel that him bum is under my ribs at the moment!

You'll definitely get there with the movements. Just have to wait a bit longer! Xx

I had an anterior placenta first baby and no difference other than I didn't feel movements until around 20 weeks. After that could feel him all the time! Mine is on the back wall this time so hopefully going to start feeling more really soon- had a couple of flutterings but that's it xx

I felt movement from around 20 weeks with DS2, and the movement was concentrated over the right hand side of my bump as my placenta was front left :)

I saw & felt hard kicks from 22 weeks exactly. Before that I was never quite sure. Now I'm used to them and the pattern is getting easier to predict. As baby gets bigger you'll feel more so don't worry (I did till now) x

I had an anterior placenta with my daughter and I first felt movement at 24 weeks ish. At the moment I'm 14.5 weeks. Don't know yet what the position of the placenta is X
