I want to go to an all day antenatal class in my area for labour, birth, pain relief and relaxation.

If my husband comes, he'll have to take the day out of his annual leave entitlement.

Do you think it is necessary for partners to come? Has anyone been alone?

Thanks!

I've just finished a block of 4 classes and my OH couldn't make one of them. Not everyone had their OH with them and some people had a friend or their mum. My OH and some of the guys who did attend didn't really like the style the info was delivered in. I suppose all the classes will be different in different areas though. I tried to feed back as much as possible for the one he did miss and asked him to think about any questions he'd want me to ask, or any info he wanted me to give him as I read a lot but he tends not to! Also depends if your OH would like the support of the other dads to be, mine wasn't really fussy.

Hey hon, legaly he's entitled to time off for this so they cant make him use holiday - hope this helps
k xxx

My hubby came first time round but i don't think its nesesary might be worth taking a freind though just to remind you of any questions x

my hubby is on the sick and when midwife asked if i was going to anti-natal classes i looked at straight at him as id never thought of asking him lol but he said yeah. Im bit nervous in going and dont even know why lol x

Im definately insisting that my OH comes with me. luckily in my area they offer them in the evenings and saturdays for working couples. I know when Im in labour Im going to need to lean on him to know what to do, so he has to pay attention too!

I agree my OH came to the free antenatal classes and i think it has made him feel more prepared. xx

I wish my OH could come with me, he's leaving for Afghan in September for 6 months and the NCT classes and NHS classes are in October :(

So I'm going to sign up for them anyway as I'll still need to know what to do with a little baby (even more so!) and am hoping my friend can travel over and come with me or my Mum when she can make it. Speaking to the NCT lady she said a lot of ladies go on their own.
