Please can you help me I'm really concerned - I moved up to Scotland four weeks ago and am currently 34+6. I've had two midwife appointments and each time have been told I would be put forward for the classes, but nothing as yet. I've left numerous messages for my midwife to call me back but to no avail. I feel like I'm running out of time and may be missing out on valuable classes. Also makes me feel really vulnerable as I'm in a totally alien environment and don't know anyone here. As you can tell its starting to really get to me! If any of you are around 35 wks please would you let me know how many classes you've attended so far and a bit about what they entailed? Thanks xx

hi ive been going to a thing called paretn craft since i was 28 weeks. we just ask loads of questions and so far they have explained pain relief in labour, feeding any queries about where we are are having our babies. i go every week and it runs for bout 6-7 weeks. i havent really learnt anything other than how some of the pan relief affects the baby. (pethadine and iamorphine also affecs baby and makes them drowsy and lazy) everything else i already knew from reading pregnancymags and looking on the net. its really just a chance to socialise with people who r around the same time in preg as me. why dont you call your local nhs helpline or go online there is a thing called sure start which is goverment funded and they do activities and things for familys or families to be. i go to aqaunatal for free with them and have also been assigned one fo their midwives as they do home visits. type sure start scotland in google and it should come up with the web site. call them and see if they can help gte you in contact with some one. i found a website that tells you stuff about antenatal classes too

hope this helps dont panic though, just remember youve got the advantage of mothers instinct no one can teach u that! xx

Thank u so much for the lengthy reply. Sometimes it helps just to know someone cares! :D
I finally managed to get hold of my mw this morning, she has now booked me in for three classes which are all in the next three weeks. She said though that its mums only, i.e. the dads are not allowed to come. I find this very strange as I want my DH to have just as much input with bubba's care as me!?!
Anyway I looked on the NCT website cos someone advised me that they do intensive one day courses which squeeze everything in and hubbies are definitely welcome, so I think i'll probably go down that route. Thanx again xxx

I want DH to come to the antenatal classes with me as he is just as much a part of my baby's life and will be there when I am in labour. Seems unfair that your DH is not allowed to go :(

Why can't he go? Try the NCT swebisite - they do classes (although you have to pay) and OH/DH can go with you. xx

Thanks girls yeah i know it sucks - I have rung my local NCT organiser and have left a message am waiting for her to come back to me, apparently they are all volunteers so the number you ring in my case is the lady's home number. Knowing my luck she'll be on her holidays for two weeks grrrr! Seems like such a battle just to get something simple acheived - not blaming the NCT at all it just feels like i have no help at all
Will let u know how it goes
