I have just been for my 16 week downs blood test at hospital. I want to ask if I am the only wimp? I nearly passed out, felt an absolute idiot. The MW said she's used to it but honestly I was so embarrassed. I hate it so much having to have blood taken. I know there's worse to come I just hate the blood tests sssoooooo much!

I was OK but my DH who was with me nearly passed out... he came out saying- don't know how I am going to cope during child birth..... bless him.

I reassured him that he would have pain relief and all the medical support he needed to get through it, oh yes and I would be there to hold his hand! :rotfl:

I have to have my blood taken every 4 weeks and between 2 and 6 viles of it everytime so i am used to it now, that with having to give myself injections everyday anyway.

My oh doesnt like needles either he stays out of the room when i have mine.

I think a lot of people dont like having blood taken so your not the only one :)

Hi

Aww alot of people are like you and when pregnant unfortanetly you get yoru blood taken quite a few times :? My sister is pregnant and scared of needles so they do the teeny ones that you can barely feel. Is that what they give you ?

Hiya
I wish it was a tiny needle! MW had to go at my arm about 3 times telling me my veins very small. Then she apologised coz she was taking ages. Just gotta get used to it eh and stop being a wimp! Shouldv'e heard me breathing in and out all dramatically what an idiot.

Very funny all these partners who are passing out and not the strong mums.

I've gone all funny just reading this thread...I HATE blood tests!!

The other day when I had my GTT bloods taken she tried in one arm and I thought she'd taken the needle out but I looked too soon and saw it still in my arm :puke:

Then she said 'Oh I'll have to try the other arm cos this one wont bleed very well' so she did it again and I managed to look too soon at the other arm too.

Im not as bad as I used to be with them but I still hate them. The worst is when I had one and she took about 6 tubes  I heard the blood squelching as she took it out too :puke:

aarrrrggghhhh you poor thing! So I am not alone
PHEW
:cheer:

It's really not uncommon. I know a DOCTOR who can't stand the sight of needles!

If you really don't like blood tests, I don't enjoy them but jus kinda get on with it, but for those who are actually frightened or real nervous etc they can give you teeny sachets of cream to take home with you. You apply a sachet to your blood donating arm about 30 minutes before your appointment. By the time you give the blood donation/sample you can't feel a thing as your arm area will be completely numb. They have to give them to my worry wart of a sister who simply asked for them. Worth thinking about as a fair few blood tests are taken in pregnancy!! :)

I have my first midwife appt on 15th feb and I think I may have to have blood tests done, Last time I had bllod tests done, I went all dizzy and felt really sick so I am hoping I maybe diffrerent this time.

I would also say, don't look

I used to have a terrible phobia of needles, then I started donating blood, that weird as it may seem, wasn't so bad, and now I am fine with needles, I do hope all future tests are quick and forgetful for you

I was terrified of blood tests until i actually had one done!! I think i worked it up so much in my mind that i was scared of a tiny scratch. I must say that my midwife is fantastic at taking blood, the first time she did it i only felt it when she pulled the needle out, the second time i couldnt actually believe she had finished because i didnt feel a thing. My veins seen really easy for to access too, so im sure that makes it all a bit easier. Oh and my DP holding my hand next to me!!!
