Hi ladies,

So I guess I'm after some reassurance!

I work for a very male dominated company (I am 1 of only 3 women) and today we had a rep come in who happened to be pregnant, I got chatting to her and she was saying how she was 30 and this was her first child etc obviously I never discussed that I was TTC baby #2 as I wouldn't want anyone to overhear but after she was gone I heard a few of the guys who had overheard our conversation (being in the same office) make a comment about her age and being too old to have a baby etc.. of course my initial reaction was to just laugh and completely disagree but I didn't feel I could press the matter too much without raising suspicions of my own plans.

I had never really considered age being a factor until today. I am 33 in July, and I know that's not old or generally considered too old to have a baby but it freaked me out a little bit! And just in terms of potential risks and those risks being higher because of my age.. Im generally very healthy and had a very healthy pregnancy aged 28 so I don't know why I'm suddenly so freaked out? Someone please tell me how stupid I'm being!!

xxxxx

Wow, 30 is too old? They don't know what they're talking about do they.

Were they older men by any chance? I think these days it's so much more common to start a family later than it was years ago.

My mum was 37 when she had me and was classed as an old mum but it's fairly common now.
I'm 33 this year and also trying for 2nd soon. I don't really feel 'old' at all.

There are a few more risks than when I had my first at 25 but I'm not really worried.
Don't let them put you off

Waiting to have children is becoming more normal these days. They do claim the risks go up with age. But there are a lot of factors that go into having a healthy pregnancy. Plenty of women have babies after 30. Just take care of yourself and work with your doctor. <3

I know, crazy isn't it -They really don't! They were actually youngish, early twenties but are clearly clueless haha

Oh so we're in the same boat! When do you plan on starting to TTC?

I wouldn't say I feel old either, I don't think I feel any older then I did when I had my son just maybe more tired now chasing after a 4 year old! haha

I am expecting that this time round it may be a little harder with also having my son to look after but I also feel like Im more prepared emotionally and practically this time round and I guess that's one bonus to being a little bit older!

30 is definitely not too old! I’m 38 and we’re trying for our first, my friend who is pregnant is 39 and most people I know who have kids have had their children after age 33. My mother was over 40 when she had my little brother!

Those men don’t have a clue! Xx

No way. The average age women have their first child where I am is 31.

Yes! I have noticed on most of the pregnancy forums many of the women are in their 30's and a lot of them are TTC their first. People will always have their opinions I suppose!
