I'm recently a single mummy (though not for the first time) and it's amicable with dad but my dilemma is that I'm ill, suspected flu, and DS is a horrific sleeper. This means I'm getting practically zero rest to get better. So I'm considering asking dad if he could have the children today/tonight so I can rest however I feel really selfish for even thinking this! What would you do?

sorry I didn't realise you and your OH had split up, hope your alright, as for flu hope you get better soon, remember that your health is important and if your too poorly to look after the kids, then you are doing the right thing by them by letting dad have them xx

Of course it's not selfish, he's a parent too. And if you think about it, if you don't rest and get better it's not fair on the kids to be getting an ill, not fully functioning you, and they'd be better off spending a day with Dad who is in good health and can look after them at 100% instead of your less than 100%. Me and my hubby have just had food poisoning and our LO was at nursery on Friday which was day 1 of being ill, and on Saturday I asked my friend to look after her for the day because it was far better for her to have fun with her Auntie Katie than put up with mam and dad being ill tempered and just wanting to go to sleep. Get well soon hun xx! He's a parent too, of cou

Thank you chick x I suppose if we were still together and one of us was ill the other would take the slack so it's not much different x

was gonna say as parents if u were togetherbyounwould have supported each other. andim sure hes gonna love seeing his kids and spending some extra time with them as well.....hope you feel better soon lovely x

It's not selfish at all MrsR. If he was ill he wouldn't take them on the days he normally has them so why would it be any different with you? Plus, it might even prevent the kids getting sick themselves. You're a great mum, fabulous even, don't doubt yourself for making decisions like that.
