I would like to know what people think about allergies in babies. Do you think we try to wean them too soon? Are we to blame for allergy's? Is it hereditary?

Would like to know peoples opinions

Thomas has an allergy to milk, soya and lactose he was born with this he dint get it from me weaning him early i weaned him early because of this,
me my nephew and my dad all suffer from the same allergies
and id be gutted if people on here thought that my sons allergies were because i weaned him
i also keep him away from gluten incase he has an allergy t that
xx

god knows..

im quite lucky. ive let my kids have a wide variety of foods. i try to get them to taste everything. although washing powder gives us all sensitive skin, food wise i think we are all pretty much ok. charl and ted were both weaned in week 20-21, both were weaned slowly, i was weaned around 12 weeks. im ok. my kids are ok. perhaps some babies dont tolerate weaning early. i dont know, i think ive said before we should all aim to get to 6 months but if our babies need food its cruel not to feed them. and noone should feel guilty.

so im pretty much clueless when it come sto what causes allergies. the only thing i have done is not given honey before one. charlotte ate nuts before two. i ate them in pregnancy. also i try not to worry about germs. kids pick everything up when they are at school.. teds probably been exposed to more germs than the average (no sibling) baby.

Sorry I phrased it all wrong :D

What I mean is "Do we think allergies just 'happen',or do we think there's a reason behind it?"

I'm curious because we have such a wide variety of foods at our fingertips yet the allergy rate is quite high.

I hope thats come across as i mean it to :D

oh i see lol
i think they just happen something that is passed down
all the people i no with allergies have someone in the family with it aswell
think its just a random thing weather you get it or not from your genes
they say asma is because of dust mites ect but ive never known anyone to have asma without a parent/sibling to have it aswell
xx

FWIW I have asthma and no one else in my family has it. I'm also now allergic to horses (heartbreaking to me) various things like dust and so on also. No one else in my family has any of these.

With regard to the question asked :) TBH I think we as a society contribute to allergies and so on. Emmisions, artificial preservatives, colourings etc in our food. Chemicals to treat crops with. The crap they pump into the meat. The list is endless.

In more recent times allergy rates and intolerance to food stuffs has soared.

I'm planning on bringing up my son to be as green and additive/crap free as possible.

Part of it might be us recognising it - back in the day there was breast milk, and that was it - if baby was lactose intolerant/ CMP intolerant etc it didnt matter, all they got was boobie milk in the cave!! Chances are people didnt even know their baby was intolerant or had an alergy. Its only lately we are able to pick up on them!

Corey has a CMP/Soy/Lactose/Glutin intolerance/allergy - something he was born with, so whos to say when I feed him a carrott hes not going to have an allergy with that? Its not because I fed him the carrott, its because he had it anyway.

Alot of babies were weaned at 3months for years... its now moved to 4-6months and theres more allergys now???? How does that work... all baloney if you ask me. Wean your baby when they need it... (NOT when you want to, or fancy feeding them for a change - when they need food)

I have asthma and no one else in my family does - I didn't get it until I was 24 either! My OH has a wheat and gluten allergy and he didn't get that until he was about 17. So who knows what causes it or why we get them at any point in our lives.
