My 21 month is really testing me and sadly winning! He will not get into his car chair!! I don't mean he winges and wines I mean he has a complete meltdown, screaming, crying he will make his body rigid, kick and slap, , if by chance I do manage to get him strapped in, 2 min into journey he will wriggle his arms out so I have to stop the car and start over. He will keep doing this doesn't matter how many times I put his arms in. I do the straps as hard as possible, he only wears a t- shirt and I pull it very tight but he still does it. I actually dread going out in the car now and have resorted to the bus for going into town. HELP!!!

Can you get one of these clips that clip the straps quite high up to try and stop him getting out. Let me try and find what I mean...

I cant help with the getting in the car seat, my daughter done this to me once and it was Hell so I cant imagine what you are dealing with. Can you bribe with food maybe??

Oh wow thanks didn't even know you get these I'll definitely order it! Bribing with food worked for a bit. Trouble is he is a big 21 month old, tall and very strong. I get so frustrated that I should be able to get him into his car chair. When his dad does it he just gives him a look and he stops!! (Tried that he screamed harder I'll have to practise look in the mirror obviously not scary enough!!)

Im sure there will be cheaper versions if you look about.
When my dd threw a tantrum someone had to help me get her in the seat so I know how difficult it is. Is it for attention? Could you literally get him in and drive without speaking to him or making eye contact at all?? Easier said than done obvs x

My little girl is almost 22 months & also refuses to get into her car seat. She will plank & refuse to sit, often it can take me up to 20min to get her strapped in. I have to drive her to nursery, bus isn't an option so I have had to persevere. No magic solution, but I often offer her some sort of reward when we reach her destination, or a book or toy she likes while in the seat. Just really wanted you to know it's quite common & ur not alone

I would be careful of some clips - just read up on them but some are not recommended due to them causing access issues in an emergency situation.

Where abouts is he seated? does he forward face or rear face?

I also read this about the clips and also lots of reviews saying that their babies managed to open up the clips after a few journeys. He forward faces. I tried the distaction thing today kept talking to him and praising him and thought we were doing so well until we got to where we were goi g and realised somewhere along the way he had removed his arms anyway!!!

Cant you give him a cheap tablet to play with? Keep him busy with his hands and distracted. You then have something to threaten to take away?

my son is uncomfortable in his current carseat and he gets upset while in it.. Perhaps that's it? I'm going to buy a new carseat after christmas, one like I have at my mums he looks miles better in that so he'll be safer too with the one we have now he wants to sit too much forward then slinks in, it's just stupid I can't even describe it and it has 4 settings!

Yeah I must admit I really don't like our car chair it's a mothercare own brand one, can anyone suggest a good one that their little ones are comfortable in?

The Maxi cosi Priori XP is an amazing car seat!! totally recommend it x

I think my driving instructor has this one! And she has two of them one for her own car and one for her husbands' car! I recognised this when I googled the picture of the priory, don't think you can go wrong when used by a driving instructor lol! We were talking about it yesterday haha! x

I recommend the Axkid Minikid - my son is very comfortable in it. Also as it is rear-facing, it is 5x safer than a forward facing seat and my son does not stand a chance of wriggling out of harness - the straps feel tight and secure. Cannot recommend it more highly.

Thanks ladies I'll have to look into them.
