Hey, I was wondering if somebody could please give me some advise.

I am currently pregnant with my second baby , With my first pregnancy i was induced at 35 weeks due to me have type 2 diabetes and i gave birth naturally to my daughter Maddi weighing 7lb's 2oz's.

The second pregnancy has been a lot harder , this time the consultant have had to increase my blood pressure tablets due to high blood pressure and they have increased my visits to the midwives to 2 visits per week to keep a close eye on my blood pressure , through out the pregnancy the baby has been measuring big.
I went for a scan on Wednesday at 32 + 1 weeks and the baby had turned into the breech position (shes always been head down) and was weighing 5lb's 5oz,s which is a lot bigger then my 1st was and was plotted on the the graph way above the 90th centile , they informed me i needed to go back for another scan on the 15th July and they will give me a date to induce me.

Today i saw my midwife and she asked how i went on at the hospital i told her everything that had been said and she asked if they had offered me a ECV with the baby been breech , I said they haven't discussed the options with me yet but i didn't want a ECV cause of the risks , she then said that sometimes there is a reason as to why babies turn breech but she didn't go into detail and that if i didn't want a ECV it would have to be a c section.

So i was wondering if somebody could please answer me the following questions as i really want a natural birth without a ECV and its worrying me regarding baby's size.

  • With the baby measuring so big would they plan for an earlier section or leave me until the 38 - 39th week ?

  • Does anyone know the reasons the midwife was on about as to why a baby could turn breech ?

  • Is there a chance she could still turn with her measuring so big ?

Thank you for reading this post i just need my mind putting to rest a bit as im nervous about a c section too lol x

My baby is currently breech and has been from somewhere between 29 and 33 weeks!

We were initially measuring on the 75th but he has shot up to over the 90th so they are concerned. They've said they're going to check why he's so big before discussing options, I would guess it's something similar with you?

I have been told that my hospital won't perform a breech section before 39 weeks, but that seems very late to me. I'll be discussing that with them at my next appointment at 35+4 which will be at the antenatal clinic, maybe you could do the same at your next hospital appt?

I've never heard of there being reasons babies can turn other than they want to! I don't think there's a cause as such, just part of them doing their normal rolling around.

Yes, she can still turn. I've heard it's not particularly comfortable - my mw said some women experience vomiting when they turn so I have a bucket with me at all times just in case but no turning yet. Keeping my fingers crossed he does a little wriggle and goes head down!

I can't offer you any advice on turning the baby etc, but I had an elective section with my second child and it was a fantastic experience! Yes I was sore but I was discharged within 24 hours and I was up and down off the bed within about 4 hours. You can still have skin to skin contact etc so please don't be frightened of it. Sometimes it's the safest option and needs to be done x

Thanks for the reply ladies really appreciate it :) i cant wait for Wednesday now to get my date , i see the midwife again today but i think baby is still breech but what will be will be :) x

I have never heard of there being a reason babies are breech. Except they just are LOL.
I can honestly say I would be the same as you. I wouldn't want them to try and turn my baby. I'd rather have a section. Especially a planned section rather than an emergency.
If it does go down the section route I think it will depend if they are section in you for baby being breech or babies size.
if you think of any questions write them all down before your appointment so you don't forget any in the heat of the moment. And get information on all options available to you.
