hello,
On e my thursday I have my GTT,I have to fast from 9 pm and my appot is 8 30 am !! the problem is early morning if I dont eat or drinking I start to b sick !!! have to make a run for the bathroom :/so how on earth r my going to cope on thursday !!! it s almost certain i will keep being sick !!:wall2::wall2::wall2:

I would ring the department and explain your situation. I think if you go and your constantly being sick, it's only going to mess with the results anyway, and if your being sick, there is no way you will hold down the glucose drink (which is vomit inducing anyway)

I am not sure what else they can do, but maybe they can suggest something. Good luck

If you are sick during the test they have to cancel it. I was like you, when I had my GTT I still had morning sickness, the only thing I did was get up as late as possible, so not awake for long before hand, and just kept sipping water. You are allowed to drink water but nothing else.

:/ will try and sip plenty of water and see how it goes thnxs ladies

I felt really sick before i even left for the test! Then the drink make me want to throw up even more!

But i managed by just sipping lots of water.

Good luck
x

If you're allowed water, you could make some plain ice lollies and just munch on them? x

I've mine in 3 weeks.....I thought I was getting lucozade....what is the vomit inducing spew like stuff we get then? Good god, they like to torture us like don't they! Xx

Its the colour of lucozade but like a thick gloopy stuff. x

Using tapatalk so excuse the typos!

It's the sweetest thing I've ever had to drink, it made my teeth fizz and was a real struggle to keep down  really not looking forward to doing it again in a few months time!

Mine was Lucozade it was a can and a bit, they said that they swapped to lucozade because the other stuff was making the women sick

Glucose tolerance test, to check for gestational diabetes. Only women who have family history of diabetes, or have high BMI have to have it x

Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT).

Oh god, not looking forward to this then. maybe I will take my own little bottle of liquid sunshine and see if they will swap it! Ha! I am a chancer! xxx

You ladies are actually making me feel lucky that I don't have to worry about having a GTT while facing my pregnancy MS and fussy eating habits, I had mine years ago, non pregnant!

Seriously though, for all you ladies having it, I hope you pass with flying colours, this pregnancy and diabetes thing really sucks too!

I don't have to fast with mine this week due to having all the other tests too. But the next ones I do. So we'll pop in as son as they open and get it done.

I am borderline needing it that's the best of it. My BMI is 29 but midwife requested it to 'be on the safe side'. Ive not put on a single pound yet so i will still ne the same bmi. Yuck, dreading the fasting thing too. I snack all the time! Xx

Personally I didn't find the drink too bad (and I dislike energy type drinks) - it tasted and had the consistency of what I imagine a lucozade cordial would be like iykwim?

I had to fast from 8 at night until my test at 9.45am! So I didn't get anything to eat until 12. Luckily sickness had/has completely gone for me, and I went past the hunger by about half 9.

Good luck though mrz85! And fingers crossed it comes back clear for you x

What's this drink you lot are on about?
If it's orangey then I can't have as allergic to oranges, juice, flavouring and the colouring so cna't even have Irn Bru or Lucazade.

Falcon, At a GTT you have to fast all night, and then go to the Hosp or a clinic, they take your blood and a urine sample, then give you a glucose drink to drink, wait a while and take more blood and urine, and they see how well your body tolerates the glucose. You've probably previously had a fasting blood sugar test, which, eventually was all i needed to test for my diabetes after being found to be glucose intolerant at my GTT years previously.

If you need a GTT (which you may do with your history), you will have to contact the clinic and tell them about your allergy as I think there is orange flavourings in the drink.

my husband had the test and sid the drink tasted like sweet pineapple !
