Hi all. Our lo arrived by forceps a few days ago. They had to do an episiotomy as well. I know it's going to take time to get back to normal, but in the meantime.... (Tmi sorry) what is the best way to clean down around back after using the toilet? The front bit, I can handle, but am so afraid of not getting clean enough after a poo. Everything is very sensitive and swollen still.

Also, I know when I need to 'go' an can make it in time, but I seem to have lost the ability to 'start' and 'stop' at will. It takes a minute of sitting to relax enough to get things going. I know I need to do my kegals, but when I try, I feel too weak. how long does it take for things to start righting themselves?

aww your bits have had a rough time! baby wipes or a jug of warm water with dalt or tea tree oil is good for cleaning around stitches. swelling will begin to go after a few days and be feeling a lot better after a week. urge and control over bm will also recover within few weeks. doing kegals will be really hard at first with little feeling of control but keep trying even if things release after only a few seconds the more you do the longer you will be able to.hold the muscles.

hope you feel more like your old self soon.

I was gonna suggest wipes too. Much easier to clean properly and a lot less wiping required iykwim!

Hey Hun I also had forceps as their degree year. My advice is to have a bath every day with tee tree and lava see oil. This helps prevent infection. When u go for no 2 get in shower and hose it lol!! I did this for 3 weeks and am only starting now to use wet wipes. I feel ur pain with pooing lol it was awful I had no control for about a week then it did start getting better so hang in there xx

Thank you everyone. I've tried wipes and they are fantastic! Been trying out kegals and while I don't feel like it's doing anything, I'm not giving up...got to build things back up. Hopefully I can get a physio appointment next week, as I was told they have something to help with the swelling (and hopefully they can relax a nerve in my behind while they are at it lol) Had to see the out of hours gp last night for severe pain, and was back in for a check in the ward today for passing clots (sorry for more tmi) that were v large. Doc said they are starting to get smaller so to keep an eye out, but not to worry. Hopefully I can get through tomorrow without having to go back to the hospital lol.
