Ladies help! My partner & I are trying to book a holiday next month, but are having disagreements on where to go. He's worried that I'll be mega uncomfortable in the heat as I'll be 16-17 weeks by then. I want to go on a city break like Dubai or Florida where we can take it easy and mooch around shops and sit in the sunshine with mocktails. I also fancy a water park to relax in and lay in the water (obviously I won't be going on any crazy rides)
He thinks this is the worst idea in the world and thinks we should book a package holiday where we chill around the pool all day and relax.
I am of the opinion that this is our last holiday without a little bundle of joy so I want to make the most of it, not get bored and sweaty round the pool! Help! Anyone been abroad at this stage of pregnancy? How did you feel on the flight and in the heat? xx

I haven't been abroad but am in London at the mo and it's been 30c today...! I've been a bit miserable personally but we've been doing a lot of walking around. I think if you took it easy and made sure to rest/keep cool in air con regularly you'd probably be ok, not sure you'd be up to much activity? How to you like the heat when not pg? I agree it's a good idea to have one last hurrah before baby. Maybe compromise for him on somewhere that isn't quite as hot as those places?

Edited to note that in have PGP so am not great at being pregnant. 16 wks isn't very big really so if you're having a good pg bear that in mind.

I'm 17 weeks and live in Sweden, it's been pretty hot here too and we're still out taking hiking trips in the sun, the only "discomfort" I have is needing to pee every 20 mins. Luckily Sweden is one big forest haha.
In 2 weeks we're driving to England, we'll be going through Sweden Denmark Germany and Holland then taking a ferry over, it'll take two days. I don't think it'll be uncomfortable, can compare it to a long haul flight since ill be mostly sitting. Then our plan when we get to England is a lot of outdoor activities. We're taking our dog with us so planning lots of hikes!

I went to Ibiza at 23 weeks, but we hired a car and went exploring. It wasn't that hot (it was April) but I definitely felt the heat more, so couldn't just sit in the sun for as long. The flight was fine, it was only a short one and I think you just have to make sure you try and move more often.

Id say at 16/17 weeks you'll feel pretty much like normal and won't have too many things making you uncomfortable (hopefully!). At that point I didn't have a bump and I couldn't feel him move, so kinda forgot I was even pregnant sometimes! Go for whatever you fancy cos like you said it'll be a while before you do it again! X

I have just got back from Dubai and would advise not to go. June-sept are unbearably hot.... like 42 degrees with no breeze. You can't sit out in the sun, it's far too hot. The locals don't go out in that weather! It's not even cool on the evening x

I went to Croatia at 28 weeks and hiked 4 hours at pletvic lakes in 32+ heat then was in USA in 35+ heat when I was 30 weeks pregnant I had no problems. You'll be fine with heat that early on just make sure you keep your fluids up and if you feel you're getting too hot go for a swim or get somewhere air conditioned. Enjoy your trip :)

We're thinking of going away next month when I'll be 16 weeks, although only going to somewhere like Lanzarote. I struggled with the heat when I was pregnant first time round but not finding it as difficult this time so hopefully it'll be fine. I wouldn't go somewhere as hot as Dubai though (personally) incase it was really uncomfortable. Just going to do as the ladies have said and drink plenty, sit in the shade when too hot and go for swims xx

Florida is air conditioned everywhere really well so you will be able to keep cool. Just wear a hat and drink tons of water, you will be fine x

I went to Italy when I was about 24 weeks with my first and it was very hot. I didn't lie out in the sun much but we had loads of days out and I just stopped for lots of cold drinks. You shouldn't really feel much difference at only 16/17 weeks though as you won't have a big bump to lug around! X

I think he's right. You want a short flight, and not a city break! That involves lots of walking, and its hotter in cities. Take it easy, package holiday sounds ideal as you dont even have to cook, or go out for food if you dont want to.

Hi I'm just back from visiting family in the USA, it was 32 degrees most days and I loved it. This is my second baby and I have a pretty big bump and it didn't put me off.

We are big fans of Orlando and went to a water park and theme park one day of this holiday and tbh, it was a waste of time for me as I wasn't even allowed on the baby rides with DS and it was a waste of a park ticket which is expensive. I enjoyed shopping and sunbathing though. With Orlando you will be amazed how much little kids enjoy it, even though they're young they still pick up loads. I'm planning to go next year now having seen how much DS loved it.

I'd probably be inclined to stick to the likes of Majorca as my favourite but was just feeling a bit of sun. Our long haul flight was fine but the hospital were very concerned as apparently you're 10 times more likely of DVT flying when pregnant! So they fitted me for flight socks and were even suggesting injections at one point!!x

I'm in Cyprus at the moment and I don't feel any different! Heat/flight hasn't effected me any differently to how it would of done not being pregnant (except I could murder a beer/cocktail!!). Having lived in Dubai I wouldn't bother at this time of year (as Wednesday said even the locals don't like it and most leave through July-August) x

I'm going to crete next Wednesday ill be 17.2 weeks when we fly we have a car booked and will be going to lots of beaches I think as long as there is water that ypu can cool off in you will be fine. Book it and enjoy. X

We're going to lanzarote a week tomorrow, finally booked it the other day  I'll be 16+4. I told my consultant and she said as long as I drink plenty and sit in the shade when I'm hot etc it'll be fine! Xx

We had already booked a 2.5 week holiday to Majorca in August when I found out I was expecting. I'll be 19 weeks when we go. I've not been away that far gone before, but I'm just going to make sure I take it easy. I'm a sun worshipper, but i am planning on spending more time in the shade, cooling down in the pool and having plenty of water to drink. We usually take lots of walks, but I think I'll just have to be careful about what time of day we do the walks. I've also made sure our travel insurance is all up to date and informed them I am pregnant. Im more worried about what I am going to wear

I am currently 27 weeks. Went away at 16 weeks and again at 24 weeks, both times to Turkey for all inclusive pool and beach holidays. First time away at 16 weeks, I got a second degree burn on my chest because I underestimated how sensitive pregnancy had made my skin :( second time away at 24 weeks, it was highs of 45 degrees and I didn't burn as I kept reapplying high factor cream every 2 or so hours. I did find the heat made me more tired so I had to go for a sleep each afternoon. Also I drank bottles of water continuously to keep hydrated. I did not enjoy flying on the second trip as I found it so hard to get comfortable :(

If you think you can handle the more active holiday then go for it :) just stay hydrated!!
