Hi-I've spent the last couple of hour searching for flights at Easter as I'll be off work and DH has managed to get a week off!! :cheer:
BUT..I just looked in my diary and noticed that the dates we were thinking of I will be just past 30 weeks pregnant!
Does anyone know if this is safe/allowed?
Has anyone been on a flight before when they have been that far along?
I really wanted to get away somewhere before baby arrives, but obviously I don't want to put my baby at risk!

I have just phoned the midwife to get some advice, but they work on an answer phone system and phone you back later, so I just left a message.

:D

I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that they don't object to you flying until after 7 months or something similar. I'm sure 30 weeks is ok to travel but obviously only a short flight so the Maldives is out :)

See what your midwife says before you book it :)

Hey, I think you should be fine, I would definately check with the airline - in case they need a doctors note to say you are well. And maybe get some of those attractive support/flight socks. Lol.

I want a holiday.

It seems to vary from airline to airline. The standard cut off point is 36 weeks for all it seems. Check with the airline you are looking to book with what they go with.

Anything over 30 depends on the airlines policy. Its at their discretion. They may require a Doctors note to say you are considered fit to fly.

Also you should consult your GP and MW about flying in third tri to get the all clear. If you have had any problems up to that point they may consider it risky to fly and advise against it. It really depends on how your pregnancy is progressing. If you do book, I'd make sure to get insurance in case you have to cancel a week before for some reason.

Also consider that long haul won't be pleasant, as bump may be big, and also there are things like DVT and other possible problems to consider. Sitting for long periods with a bump is far from comfy. I'm only 28 weeks and am the size of a house and find sitting for longer than 30 minutes in an upright position on a solid chair to be about all I can cope with. The idea of trying to waddle up and down a airplane aisle with this big a bump is far from appealing. No one would be able to get past me  I'm not even sure I could turn sideways in the aisle tbh  So not sure being able to stretch my legs would work well either.

And for some of the cheapie airlines, I'm not even sure I'd fit my ass into their seats at this point either  :rotfl: :rotfl: It's expanded along with my belly

I think short haul is a safe-ish bet. Spain or France, maybe Italy or Greece, but I'd also consider about not going somewhere too hot at 30 weeks as it might get uncomfy with bump.

Why not look at going somewhere in the UK or Ireland if you don't want to fly too far? OK, not a definate sunny break but there are plenty of wonderful places to visit. Maybe the Channel Islands? We went to the south of France in April last year and it was lovely. Not hot at all, but warm sunny days and cooler nights. 2 hour flight to Toulouse.

If flying is the sticking point, you can get just about anywhere on a train these days, it's more comfortable, and they don't make you walk through those xray/metal detector things and take your shoes off to be poked and prodded.

www.seat61.com has a lot of ideas for routes :)

Ok-I've just spoke to the midwife and she wasn't too impressed.
She basically advised me not to go! :(
The airline requires a doctors note past 28 weeks and she said I might struggle to get insurance. (I was only thinking about France-so other short haul must be out too :( )
I've not had any problems with my pregnancy up to now, but I daren't book it againat the advice of people who know what they are talking about, just in case I put my baby at risk.
I'm really disappointed, but I'll start looking into UK breaks and hopefully find something.
Thanks for your advice girls..if anyone else knows some good UK breaks let me know. :)

Have you considered the ferry or eurostar? France is nice and easy to get to. I can't believe she didnt say it was ok! When i flew to France it took half hour... so i doubt it'd be bad...
still go away somewhere nice, Uk has pretty places xxxxxxxxx

Edinburgh is lovely. Just got a few hills to cope with depending on where you stay in town. We spent a long weekend there and had plenty to do with seeing the Castle, museums, parks, city wanders, eating out, cinema and so on. Also you can easily hire a car and head out to the Highlands for a few days also.

And yup Eurostar to France is always good. Paris in 2 hours from London IIRC. You could connect to the south of France easily enough from there, the French train service is excellent. We booked our tickets online before we left and also got some while we were there and had no problems either way. It'd be a great way to travel across France and see some of it and in comfort also.

Wales is a lovely place to visit
We spent a week in the North of Wales ans had a wonderful holiday
We enjoyed it so much we did not want to come back.
ther was so much to do and see we climbed up snowdonia (of course preggers not a good idea) but the views are breath taking
lovely walks beautiful sceaner water falls rivers lakes gullies moutians ect.
the sea is not to far away.
Youve got history all around you castles, old mines, ancient monuments.
the wild life is brilliant buzzards kestrels red kites and more.

The cottage we stayed in was so cute and older worldie
made of local stone
The bedroom had genuine exposed beams, old wood cupboards and wardrobe and a queen sized oak bed
Good sized kitchen and dining table the floor shower made from welsh slate.
lovely views out of every window. BLISS :D
I want to be back there now thinking about it

Ill pass the details on if you would like
 sarah :)

Devon or Cornwall me lovely.

It bee-yoo-tiful down here.

Thanks for your advice everyone-We have booked train tickets for Edinburgh-I've never been, but I'm sure it'll be lovely. Just need to find a hotel now. :cheer:

This is a completely personal recommendation based on what I like when I go on holiday - somewhere homey to stay, lovely coffee shops to have breakfast and hot chocolate, not far from the centre of things but somewhere quiet.

My Dad currently rents a flat in Stockbridge (an area in Edinburgh) and I think it is wonderful!!!

Old cobbled streets, lovely little shops (my favourites being Adam's Pottery, Galerie Mirage (for jewellery) and Mellis the Cheesemonger), the choice between the italian place on St Stephen's Steet (which does gorgeous thick hot chocolate) or the French one round the corner for delicious breakfast (or lunch) and loads of lovely restaurants for the evening. I walk a lot more slowly now as my pelvis is falling apart but I can walk to Princes Street (the main street) in 15 minutes. When you get there you are opposite the castle :D (though not opposite the road to the castle)It used to take me less. It is uphill to get to town so you might prefer to take the bus. Bus fares are £1 to go any distance or somewhere around £2.50 for a day ticket and the buses in Edinburgh are really good - lots of the regularly.

This place is opposite where my Dad stays:

I don't know whether it is any good as I just stay with my Dad - I'm just recommending the area and there are bound to be lots of other places to stay nearby too.

To see everything in Edinburgh definitely get a ticket to one of the tour buses. There are a lot of sights to see and if it's nice weather you could sit out on the open top.

I doubt that will happen tbh. 35 weeks you may not be allowed to fly with the airline and also insurance won't cover you as you could go into labour etc. And I'd not travel in pregnancy without it for sure.

I'd have a rethink and look to closer to home at that late a stage. Also you'll be so far along at that point you may not want to go anywhere as you might not have the energy for a break other than to sit and rest.

Thanks for all your fab advice girls-I will look into some of those options of tours and accomodation!

abcd1234-tbh I think I would rethink a flight at 35 weeks. I think if I'd been a bit more determined i could've got away with 30 as long as i had a doctors note, was feeling well and managed to get insurance, but in the end I realised it was prob a bit risky and not worth it :(
35 weeks is pretty close though-not sure they'd let you fly and like Sherlock says you might not feel up to much at that point anyway-try checking with your midwife and see what she says.
:)

I stay about 40 mins form edinburgh - I went to uni there last year and I am through there in a few weeks to meet up with uni mates.

U will love it! I love Edinburgh!

I want to go away in the easter hols (2nd 2 weeks in April for me) but I will be 37 weeks :( Might see if I can go away for a long weekend with someone, any offers ;)
