I've also posted this in the LTTC board but thought I might get more responses if I post in both. Hope no one minds :)

I've been having acupuncture for fertility for about 6 months now and I'm just not sure it's doing anything for me. I've never had any previous experience of acupuncture so I've nothing to compare it to but I know a lot of you lovely ladies may have had it.

I enjoy the sessions and find my acupuncturist really easy to talk to so I definitely get something out of being able to vent about how crap life is but I'm not sure I'm getting anything out of the acupuncture itself. My periods have always been clotty and painful. She said at the beginning that this should improve but I can honestly say that there's no difference whatsoever.

I don't know whether acupuncture just isn't for me or whether my acupuncturist just isn't very good (I don't mean that to sound horrible but I have nothing to compare her to). Realistically, I think we will be doing IVF next year and I've read about the benefits of it alongside IVF but I'm thinking if I'm not seeing any changes now then is it going to help? Also, I'm sort of thinking that if I do want to try a different acupuncturist, I should do it soon before starting IVF.

Would really appreciate hearing of any acupuncture experiences and what benefits if any you got out of it. Trying to decide whether to give someone else a shot or give it up all together.

Hi moomingirl. I've been having acupuncture sessions the last couple of months mainly for a back ailment. I have spoken to my acupuncturist about the fact we're ttc but I've not had any miracle results from it. I do feel incredibly calm after I have my session which I love but nothing on the fertility front so far, not even a squinter of a line on a test, so I'd also love to hear if anyone has some positive stories to tell xx

Hey ladies, I have gone to accupuncture for heartburn and general anxiety, not TTC, but it sounded like you wanted some general info from people who have been through accupuncture, so here's my two cents. I went to 3 different people, the first one was amazing, I always felt really relaxed afterwards aside from my first ever treatment where I was too freaked out about the needles. The second lady I went to a few years later in a different town (I moved), literally had no effect on me whatsoever. She was very nice and pleasant, but it did nothing to help me or relax me and I thought I was broken. Then a year later I moved yet again and figured I'd try it once more since it worked so well the first time and ended up having some of the best sessions, only went 6 times, my heart burn is gone and my anxiety is managable with exercise and yoga.

Hope this helps you a bit! I'm thinking you should give someone a shot who has gotten some great reviews, that's how I found my last lady and if we struggle with TTC, I will go back to her for that as well. Best of luck!

Maybe try a different acupuncturist. I've had a few. Don't now if it did a lot but was relaxing. You could try dietary stuff for periods?

Is your acupuncturist specialising in fertility? If not then go to someone else.
Do you feel when she puts the needle in at correct point? As in a reaction to it? When mine did certain points I could feel my leg get heavy/ a sensation etc
I think if you are seeing no cycle changes and no not gaining much from it then try someone new as it's a pricey treatment and decide from then if it's worth it.
I had acupuncture through trying naturally and IVF and it was amazingly helpful for me but she specifically specialised in fertility and was very knowledgeable about it all xx

That's really helpful thanks. It's good to hear you've had totally different experiences with different people treating the same complaint. I just wanted to know if that was possible before spending more money trying someone different.

She does specialise in fertility but isn't Zita west affiliated. I'm not sure if that's important? I do feel the needles most of the time during the session but no actual cycle changes to speak of which is why I don't think it's actually doing anything. I kinda feel that if it's not doing anything now then I doubt it will do anything for IVF so now is the time to change if I'm going to. Is there anything you think I should be asking if I'm looking for someone else? She's very good to talk to but as we're not going through treatment yet it's difficult to know how knowledgeable she really is.

Thanks to everyone for the replies so far.

I'm going to find someone new. I think the only thing I'm really getting is an opportunity to vent and a very expensive one at that!! I think it's that feeling of offloading that makes me feel good rather than the acupuncture itself being particularly relaxing.

I don't think they need to be zita west affiliates. Mine wasn't and she was amazing. She was great to talk to too, like a counselling session.
Try and maybe get a feel for her knowledge, ask what particular points are aimed at treating, ask how it helps IVF
In regards to looking for someone, I would ask for recommendations on local fb pages. You don't have to specify fertility but once you have some names, you could look them up to check xx

Thank you lisey. I think I've definitely shortlisted 2 in the area and will probably send enquiries to another 3. A big issue for me is finding someone who will do evenings or weekends so it rules out a lot in the area.

I do find the counseling part really helpful at the moment so I will definitely be looking for someone I can gel with but I'd just like to get some benefit from the acupuncture.

I hope you manage to find someone good. It was a lifesaver for me, the points she did were aimed at my anxiety too and it helped massively, even now I am much calmer in that sense.
Hope you have a lovely Christmas xx

It's acupuncture experiences like yours that made me want to give it a go but I'm just not getting that. Definitely going to find someone else. I know it doesn't guarantee success with TTC, I'd at least want to feel better in myself generally.

Merry Christmas!!

A girl I know struggled and had acupuncture for 3 cycles and then she fell pregnant so I am going to give it a go for a few months but it's pretty expensive so won't be doing it indefinitely but I am at the point I need to give it a try!

Anything is worth a try i reckon. Hope it works for you x

Hope it works for you. As you have probably read, I've not had a great experience so far but I'm not going to give up on it yet. I've emailed a couple tonight. Definitely dropping my current one.

I am going to the same one my friend went too. She struggled for over 1 year with endo and fibroids and she got pregnant 2nd cycle after going to this women. So worth a shot I guess. I wouldn't go long term I'd maybe try it for say 6 months max. She also fell lregnant with her 2nd by accident. ..so weird how many times I have heard that. Anyway I am not pinning anything on it but will try it especially when recommended by someone I know

Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who's tried it. Also need to find someone who does evening/weekend appointments and that's harder than it sounds. I think you just have to be open minded. Just need to think of a polite email to my current acupuncturist.

This women I am going to try does evenings and wknds! Yeah I would just say you are going to take a break from the treatment for now. She doesnt have to know your trying someone else? Yeah I feel like my BFP will happen soon sometime between January and April...the month April just keeps having a weird feeling about it but I don't know why. Trust your gut I am told!

I am tempted to contact the psychic plummer Who told me I would have a 2 kids..1 girl, 1 boy with a 2 year gap. I just want to ask him if he knows anymore. I also might go back for another tarot reading!

Yeah I was going to go with something along those lines. I hate lying but I know there's nothing to gain from saying 'you're very nice but your treatments are doing absolutely nothing for me' haha.

Had a long chat with hubby about it tonight. He's actually keener than I am for me to give it another go which surprised me. The problem for me is that I really do feel that the whole situation is hopeless so everything just feels like such a waste of time and money. We've agreed to try someone else but only for around 6 months max.
