Just to chime in...Becks you're 19. Your age is DEFINITELY on your side. I was told when I was 29 that I was lucky that I was so 'young' to be trying. ha! I'm 32 now and nothing yet...
As for getting folic acid from the doctor...I am sure can get it without a doctor's visit. Just buy a Vitamin B supplement and it should be in there. Also, most cereals are fortified with folic acid. Take a look at a bran cereal and read the nutritional info. You'll likely find it has 100% of the recommended daily amount. Green vegetables also really help!
And CM...I posted elsewhere today about how easy it is to monitor. Just keep looking at the toilet paper when you wipe and you will eventually see plentiful thick, yellowy-white mucous that is really stretchy. They say that is a sign of impending OV!
I don't know about telling people that you're 'trying'...It's like rusks said, once people know about they ask. And when you don't have the answer you want ("I'm pregnant!") it can be very frustrating and embarrassing. Maybe you're a little too young for people to 'expect' it, but Ive been married for three years and at about year 1 people started asking out straight about us having kids! "When are you having kids?" "any kids yet?" etc etc. It gets really hard to take when you're really trying to produce these kids that people want to know about!!
Good luck! This board is really supportive, even if I rant on sometimes
