Morning,

Looking for some advice here if at all possible, I had the scan yesterday at which point we believed we were around 9 weeks. When we did the scan the lady said she could only see the gestational sac (no fetal poles or hb) which was around 24mm which would mean we were at around 6-7 weeks and not 9 weeks.

Obviously this was horrible news and the lady said give this form to your midwife for a further scan (Internal, this was an external scan). When we called the midwife she asked if I had a regular cycle (dating was based on first day of last period) and if not the dating can be off as that approach assumes a one size fits all approach. My cycle is very erratic and based on that she said not to worry but we cant see you until Monday since this was on Friday night.

We went over some dates and tried to narrow down if this could be true and I think they could be right, reason for that is we did a few of the clear blue tests which we couldn't really read (extremely faint/having myself on) but took that as a positive result then we had 4 days of light bleeding which we put down to implantation bleed after that we did a digital test which came back not pregnant which we put down to low levels of the hormone as they require more of it to be present to accurately date the conception.

At this time we tried again and did a another test a week or so later (digi test) and that came back pregnant (1-2 weeks). Now if that was to be accurate that would put our dates at 6~ weeks.

Now (breathe!) if that was to be true and given that the potential conception date matches up with the last digital test and the size of the gestation sac. would we expect to see anything in the scan if it was 6 weeks? The midwife said most likely not but obviously she could be being kind.

Any thoughts and thanks for reading this far! :)

Hi! Firstly I just want to say that I'm so sorry for what you are having to go through right now. I've been there myself and it was agonising!
The same thing happened to me in December, I had an early scan at would should have been 8 weeks, I New my dates, had worked them out and there was. I way I could be much less! I had an external and in internal and they measured the sack at around 5.5 weeks- no sign of baby. They told me to go back in a week to see if there had been any progress.
I too had a very light bleed at 4.5 weeks- just once when I went to the toilet, I tested a few days after and still had a bfp and my pregnancy symptoms were getting stronger!
When I went back for my second scan they confirmed that there was no baby, but my sac was still growing. They said this was either a missed misscaroage early on, where the sac was still attached and developing or a blyted ovum. I had to wait another week before being booked in or a d and c, but started miscarrying naturally before the procedure.
It was such a horrible and draw out process and felt like it would never end. This happened in December last year just before Christmas.
I knew that I didn't have my dates wrong and there was no chance i could have been not as far along, but if you say that there is a possibility that you may only be 6 weeks then that is hopeful! I pray that everything is ok for you!
I think at 7 weeks they would expect to see something with an external scan, but at 6 weeks it could be possible that an internal is possible.
Best of luck for Monday! Hope everything is ok xx
