7 Day rule

I was supposed to be having the coil fitted last monday, but when i got there she wouldn't do it as i wasn't on my period so sent me home with the pill and told me to come back in 3 weeks.

Anyway..... As i wasn't on my period or anywhere near it she told me just to take my pill on that day and to use protection for 7 days, so i have taken 9 days worth now, and having pink spotting and period type pain. Does this mean the pill hasn't fully protected me yet, or is it just cos my period is probably due now so with me taking the pill it is just spotting instead?

The questions i am asking in all that jumble are:-

Will i still be covered after 7 days even though i started outside my period (it's been 9 days now and getting a little horny!!)
Why am i getting spotting and period pain

yes you should be protected now, if you start taking it the first day of your period you are protected straight away if you start it when noton your period then it tkes 7days

Well i know that if you take you pill without the 7 day break (if you don't want to bleed on holiday etc) then you still spot, that's what makes me think i should have been due my period now, but because they were all over the place and i had a period every other week i couldn't say for definate!
